Will Nellly find the main glory in Erin Hills?

control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss the open hopes of women in the USA of Nelly Korda, Rory Mcilroy’s decision to overcome the Memorial, a debate which will be the other player who will win the Grand Slam career and more.
Two weeks ago, Scottie Scheffler won the PGA championship to capture the second match of Grand Slam career, joining stars like Xander Schauffe, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm and others who are also halfway there (while Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson still have three of four). Now that Rory Mcilroy marked his clash by winning the masters, who do you think catches other epic feat?
Josh Sens, elderly writer, @joshsens: Scheffler is the favorite of a mile. It would not be a shock if he ended this year.
Jessica Marxbury, Senior Editor, @jess_Marksbury: Completely agree, Josh! It is not stretched to predict it to win the Oakmont next month. Open it may be his biggest challenge for all four, as it may be so dependent on the weather and time, but it is difficult not to imagine it by winning one in the next few years.
Dylan Dothier, old writer @dylan_dethier: I like the chances of Xander Schauffle. His open American record is absurd; At the eight early career he has six Top-7s and never ended worse than T14. He has completed 10 balls in Masters in five of his last seven starts and has two Top-3s. Ironically the two diplomas he earned is the two most difficult. He is set to be the next champion of Grand Slam.
‘Strength size:’ the most impressive PGA Scheffler PGA Feat was not seen
Mcilroy, playing his first Major since the victory of his masters, did not speak to the reporters after any of his four rounds in PGA Championship, and now the world No.2 is sitting outside this week’s memorial, a signature event organized by Jack Nicklaus since 2017.
Sense: Not a few. He has explained that at this point in his career, he is about the major. Is it a tactical mistake to overcome commemoration and risk collecting competitive rust? Perhaps but clearly this is how Mcilroy thinks he can best prepare for Oakmont.
Marxbury: I was a little surprised by the decision not to speak. Rory has generally been very generous with his time with the media, so yes, that stretch was a little annoying. But still understandable. The memorial of the passage is also. Given the great pace of the great championship season, coupled with all the signature events sprinkled throughout, it is difficult to find a week to spend. And no doubt Rory wants to be as rested and prepared as possible to open the US.
alacrity: I think the simplest explanation for Mcilroy that does not speak after the round is that, at the moment, he didn’t feel like him? But it is one thing to do it to the middle of the tournament when you are not playing well; When he overlooked the last round, I thought it was strange. He just won the Grand Slam career! He is the champion of masters! Ironically, I’m more curious about his decision to go through everything – was this a kind of message? – But because he did not speak, no one took the opportunity to ask him.
I was not surprised by him bypassing the memorial, though. He is an open loyal to Canada RBC now, he likes to play a week before the diploma, he is seeking to play fewer events, he has travelers behind US Open and, essentially, he is looking for it. If Mcilroy passes the first round of the FedEx Cup Play off, this is when we will do truly Start listening to his schedule, anyway.
Silence PGA of Rory Mcilroy turned the celebration into confusion
US women’s open Grain this week at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, which will be the biggest course event since he hosted US Open 2017 (won from Brooks Koepka). All eyes will be in Nelly High Rangut Cord, though in the last five years she has lost three cuts and has only one Top 10 in this tournament. Why didn’t he click everything about her on the biggest women’s golf scene? And how do you like her chances this week at Erin Hills?
Sense: I wouldn’t make much of that relatively small statistical sample. There is nothing about the Corda game that makes it suitable for this particular event. It also has two 10 in the ball in Open Women’s Open. It’s no secret that Cord has gone through some wars in recent years, so a small part of the lost cuts is not a shock. Funny game, golf. That’s how it goes. It is undoubtedly since then driven by the ship. This week, it is more likely that she will claim than not.
Marxbury: He said well, josh. The game is unclear. Look at Lydia Ko’s ups and downs over the past few years. Erin Hills looks like a good fit for Nelly, and after passing this week’s stop in Mexico, I expect it to be ready with all the cylinders that fire to open.
alacrity: You are both right, but if there is a hole in the cord resyum, it is that it has not played even in the most difficult LPGA tests. I believe that our Zephyr Melton looked at this and discovered that all its victory in the blow came when the winning result is 9 under par or better; This will be a good week to keep the wheels on the right track and grind its way into quarrel. The course should be placed extremely well for its game.
In addition to the cord seeking its first victory of the season, what is your favorite scene for this week in Erin Hills for which viewers should be aware?
Sense: Extreme prejudice here, but every great women offers the treatment of Lydia KO, a generative talent and one of the great people with good heart in the game. Enjoy it now because she has said she doesn’t plan to stay for longer.
Marxbury: Lexi Thompson in her “step-far” season-will make her 19th in a row of US women. This is incredible. There is definitely something she is still looking for her professional golf career. An open women’s win in the US-a championship where she endured the close heart-it would mean everything.
alacrity: Jeeno Thitikul has been playing as she is ready to challenge the cord for the number 1 ranking and she will come in a victory; Meanwhile, her trophy issue lacks a big championship. This tracking will be intriguing to see.
Speaking to LPGA Tour, last week she announced Craig Kessler as her 10th commissioner, and on Thursday he filed four “building blocks” in which he wants to concentrate. What is his biggest challenge by moving forward and, if you are Kessler, what is first on your list to do?
Sense: The main challenge strikes me as a type of seizure 22. Kessler’s pillars include protecting the financial future of the county and the emergence of the largest stars of the game. Hard to argue them. But to attract more sponsors requires evidence that events are reaching a large audience. And drawing a large audience is difficult when exposure to TV/media is much more limited than for men. This is an old story. Change is said easier than done. The players’ personalities are for sure. We know that people are drawn into history, rivalries – they want to follow the bow of persuasive performers in big events. How do you get those stories there given the obstacles – I don’t have the answer.
Marxbury: All the brilliant points, Josh. I would add that I am also not against the yard of shortening the tour little. Sometimes the length of the courses seems superfluous. What is wrong with a bird’s holiday every time at a time? The more these women can shine, the better.
alacrity: Theirs is a different version of the same challenge that every Golf League professional faces: How do you make it fun? There is no simple answer but the most fun shifts are mostly SIGNIFICANT Events, they are played in unforgettable courses, they include high -time players and their television products help set up all of the above. How about Kessler’s role? He has to think outside the box and he must be a hype man. Excited to see how he treats the concert.
Happy Memorial Day weekend! Where are you tearing it?
Sense: Stop rubbing it. You know I’m working on the holiday. But I’m really excited about my next time. New Poppy Ridge opens on May 31 in Livermore, ca. A high -priced, medium -priced construction is a rarity almost everywhere. And especially here in the golden state. Look forward to.
Marxbury: I too, I have to wait until after the holidays for my next time. But May in Arizona is the beginning of my favorite time of the year: Summer Golf Deals! For diahards ready to dare heat, the descents are deep. My location for the next few months is Starfire Golf Club in Scottsdale, where a $ 150 Golf Golf take me for $ 20 green fees every time it removes it by mid -September.
alacrity: I land in Columbus, Ohio late on Monday afternoon for a couple Tuesday interviews Tuesday in Memorial; So far it is west in the eastern time zone that if I play my cards exactly, there may still be a twilight round in my future.
