David Nyika has used daily affirmations to stay focused on his task of destroying IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia in their January 8 fight.
Psychological warfare
Nyika (10-0, 9 KOs) is committed to physically breaking Opetaia (26-0, 20 KOs) and knocking him out in their main event, live on DAZN at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, in Queensland, Australia .
There are 13 days until two power punchers meet, and Nyika is ready to take the IBF crown off Opetaia’s head to expose him.
Obadiah’s vulnerability
The boxing public has already seen how vulnerable Opetaia is in his recent rematch with Mairis Briedis on May 18. When things were going well early in that fight, Jai looked invincible, but things changed completely when Briedis put the heat on the Aussie and attacked relentlessly in the second half of the match.
As soon as he saw his blood, Opetaia mentally crumbled and looked scared. Seeing Briedis put the bully Opetaia in his place was an eye-opener. You could see the fear in Opetaias’ eyes.
Nyika will surely have seen the mental weakness in Opetaia and will attack him like a shark and not allow him to attack the way he normally does against the lesser fighters his promoters have matched him up against. The striking power of Nyika is similar to that of Briedis, and aggressive style is also on the same level. He is kryptonite to Opetaia.
“I am prepared for anything. I don’t even know what I’m doing at the gym. They tell me the times I should have been here,” Jai Opetaia told the TCB network. “I train every day at 9:30, 11:00 and 4:30. I don’t even know what I’m doing. I just know the times I had to be here, and whatever they throw at me, I do the best I can.
“I don’t stick to a routine because if the routine doesn’t happen, then what? I’ve rolled up after fights before and not even warmed up. I wrapped my hands and walked straight out. These are the things you have to be prepared for,” said Opetaia.
