1991— South Africa’s Elana Meyer set the first IAAF-certified world record in the 15-kilometer distance, running 46:57 in Cape Town. The previous best, 47:17, was set by Norwegian Ingrid Christiansen in 1987.
TCS NY City Marathon
1986–Grete Weitz (2:28:06) won the women’s division in 8thth of his final 9 wins. Italy’s Gianni Poli won the men’s race in 2:11:06, followed by Australia’s Rob de Castella (2:11:43), the 1983 world champion, and Italy’s Orlando Pizzolato (2:12:13), the two-time defending champion. New York champion and Kenyan Ibrahim Hussain (2:12:51) who would go on to win the race the following year. (20,502 snacks)

1997–Despite stopping 2 times to re-tie the shoelaces on his new pair of shoes (they would come off 3th time, but this time he didn’t stop), Kenya’s John Kagwe won the men’s race in 2:08:12 (He would win again the following year). As the NY Times reported, it was a “miserably wet, windy and rainy day.” Those conditions, plus the time he lost fixing his shoes, could have given Kagwe a chance to break the course record of 2:08:01 set in 1989 by Tanzania’s Juma Ikangaa.
Switzerland’s Franziska Rochat-Moser was the surprise winner in the women’s race in 2:28:43. Kim Jones (2:32:07), top American finisher in women’s race (6:00 p.m.)th), complained that some managers were given an unfair advantage at some water stations (see link). Suffering from pain during the race, Kenyan Tegla Lorupe, a crowd favorite after winning in New York in 1994 and 1995, finished seventh.th at 2:33:31. (30,434 finishers)

2003— Margaret Okayo (2:23:03) won the women’s race ahead of Kenya’s Catherine Ndereba (2:23:03) and Lorna Kiplagat of the Netherlands (2:23:43) as all three bested Okayo’s previous course. 2:24:21 record set in 2001.
In the men’s race, Kenyans finished in the top 4 with Martin Lell (2:10:30) beating defending champion Rogers Ropp (2:11:11), Christopher Cheboiboch (2:11:23) and Ellie Rono (2). :11:31).
Among the record number of 34,729 finishers was Sean “P Diddy” Combs, who ran in 4:14:54 as part of a fundraiser to help children in need.

2008— World record holder Paula Radcliffe, who was limited to a disappointing 23 by a stress fractureth– Qualified for Beijing Olympics in August, comeback to win women’s race in New York No. 2th year in a row, beating runner-up Lyudmila Petrova of Russia by almost 2 minutes (2:23:56-2:25:43). Completion 3th It was Cara Goucher who ran 2:25:53, the fastest debut time by an American woman at the time.
Brazil’s Marilson Gomez dos Santos (2:08:43), the 2006 winner, passed Morocco’s Abderrahim Goumri (2:09:07) in the final half-mile.th Men’s title. He was named to the NYRR Hall of Fame in 2019.

2012–Mayor Michael Bloomberg and race organizers announced the cancellation of the New York City Marathon just hours after insisting the race would go ahead as scheduled. There was growing opposition to holding the race while the city was still recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

2014– Both races were close and Mary Keitany (2:25:07) won 1st.St Out of the 4 women’s titles, she beat her compatriot Jemima Sumgong of Kenya (2:25:10) by just 3 seconds, while Kenyan Wilson Kipsang (2:10:59) beat Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa (2:11:06) by 7 seconds in the men’s race. ), who will win the race in 2018.
With 50,869 starters (50,530 finishers), it was the largest marathon in history. It was the first year that TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) sponsored the event.
