Noussair Mazraoui has revealed he “felt good” as soon as he became aware of Manchester United’s interest at the start of the summer, which coincided with his desire to leave Bayern Munich.
Mazraoui completed a £17million move to United on the same day as team-mate Matthijs de Ligt and has started each of the club’s first two Premier League games this season.
“I wanted to move to another club this summer. When I heard the Manchester United option, I knew I wanted it. It felt good straight away, but I had to wait until they (Aaron Wan-Bissska) were sold,” said the full-back. Viaplay.
“You don’t just say goodbye to Bayern, I was ready for something else. That was for a lot of things, but I don’t want to talk about that. I always wanted to go to the Premier League, but I knew that I would make a move after Ajax.
Mazraoui explained that his experience of English football and United so far has been positive, especially as strong defensive actions can be as celebrated by fans as goals.
“Fortunately, the first impression was good, and that’s how I felt too,” he said. “That’s a relief. Everything is new, and it can easily go wrong. What I’ve really liked is that they can also really appreciate a defensive action, like a good tackle or a good interception here.”
United kept a clean sheet against Fulham to open the new campaign but were beaten by a Brighton & Hove Albion winner after going behind and back.
The tests will only get tougher, with Liverpool the visitors at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
