The weeks after the Olympics are usually a time of reflection. Athletes can look back on successes and near misses before taking time to plan for their next major tournament or calling time on a demanding career.
This year there were several headlines that got tongues wagging on social media. Australian ranking competitor Rachael “Rae Goon” Goon caused a stir with her performances and the controversy continued with many questioning her suitability to represent her country in the field.
Other post-Olympic title holders who continue to make noise include 100m gold medalist Noah Lyles and NFL star Tyreek Hill.
Who is Tyreek Hill?
Tyreek is a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins and is widely considered the fastest player in the league. With the NFL season soon to begin, the Dolphins are considered relative underdogs for the Superbowl at around 25/1, but are the second favorite behind the Buffalo Bills for the AFC East title.

Hill has been with the Miami Dolphins since being traded from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and comes from a track background. The former sprinter’s career best was 23.34 mph in 2016, and he also clocked a 9.98 second 100m in 2013.
Hill/Lyles Feud
Noah Lyles is no stranger to ruffling a few feathers and caused a stir in 2023 After winning the 100m and 200m events at the World Athletics Championships. During the press conference, he called out NBA stars for claiming they were world champions despite only competing against other teams from the United States and Canada.
After Team USA’s gold medal win in Paris, Lyles congratulated the team and noted that playing basketball in the Olympics pits them against the rest of the world.
He also caused controversy by questioning Anthony Edwards’ Adidas sneaker contract when he feels he deserves just as much, if not more.
The latest controversy was sparked by Tyreek Hill’s comments on the Up & Adams podcast, where he said Lyles should stick to what he knows before being asked if he thinks he can beat him in the race.
Hill insisted he would beat the Olympian in the race, he also criticized Lyles’ bronze medal performance in the 200m, saying his Covid diagnosis sounded like an excuse.
Lyles responded by calling him “that football guy”, claiming he couldn’t remember his name.
Noah Lyles Paris Performances
It 2024 Paris Olympics 100m final It has been described as the greatest race in history, with just 0.12 seconds separating the 8 finalists. Both Lyles and silver medalist Keeshan Thompson of Jamaica finished in 9.79 seconds, with only a photo finish separating the two with Lyles leading the race by five thousandths of a second.
Four days later, Lyles finished third in the men’s 200m final after testing positive for Covid two days earlier. As Letsile Tebogo celebrated Botswana’s first ever Olympic gold, Lyles was carried off the track by medical staff.
Lyles was forced out of the men’s 4x100m relay final, where the US team was disqualified in a disastrous opener.
Will we see a race between the two athletes?
In an age where YouTube and social media stars draw bigger crowds than official boxing world title fights, it’s not inconceivable that we could one day see Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill square off.
There’s only three years between Lyles, 27, and Hill, 30, and that’s going to get a lot of attention from the media world. However, with the NFL season about to start, it is unlikely that Hill will be cleared to participate in such an event.
Hill has nothing to lose by competing against the fastest man in the world and all the pressure will be on Lyles. However, as a gold medalist Olympian, it is clear that he is more than up to the task.
Such an event would attract a large number of viewers among athletics and football fans and could become a major event crypto gambling operators and sportsbooks that make the race more expensive.
