Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé he has been diagnosed with a sprained left knee, and the club has confirmed that there are no plans for surgery at the moment.
The 27-year-old France international has been dealing with an external ligament problem in his left knee since the end of 2025.
He was absent from last week’s Champions League second leg against Benfica and then traveled to Paris to undergo further medical assessments.
Madrid stated that tests confirmed the sprained knee and that the player will proceed with a conservative recovery program.
Mbappé’s representatives added that he was in the French capital alongside members of the club’s medical team to fine-tune his rehabilitation and prepare for his return.
Absence against Getafe and doubt about the match against Manchester City
The forward missed Monday’s League meeting with Getafe while his recovery continues.
Their participation in next week’s Champions League round of 16 Manchester City remains uncertain.
A statement from his camp confirmed that, in agreement with Real Madrid, further evaluations are being carried out to optimize his treatment plan.
At this stage, surgery is not considered part of the process.
Arbeloa explains the decision to allow full recovery
Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa previously said the choice to give Mbappé time to fully heal was made collectively.
The French striker has scored 38 goals in 33 games for the club this season.
Arbeloa stressed that prioritizing a full recovery was considered the best course of action by all parties involved.
He indicated that the layoff would extend beyond a few days, although he could not provide a precise time frame for Mbappé’s return, and expressed hope that the absence would not be prolonged.
