If you are surprised to see Ben Griffin’s name at the top of the commemorative manager at half the point of this great event, loaded with signature at the site of Jack Nicklaus, you have not paid attention.
Griffin has been one of the hottest players on the planet last month.
At the end of April, he joined Andrew Novak Earn Zurich’s classic And I get his first career victory PGA Tour. He lost the cut and tied up for the next 46 weeks, but this was followed by a T8 at the Championship-Top PGA first first-and gave the Charles Schwab Charly’s place last week, where Griffin won again.
While Zurich was a team event and did not offer world rank points, the same cannot be said about Charles Schwab Charly in Colonial. He repeated this run by Griffin is not unclear, and threw it into the official rankings of world golf. Its highest ranking was the 48th.
The victory in Zurich was the first 29-year-old Pro in his 90th starting to the tournament, and followed two seasons in which he had eight 10 in 72 starts. While he was not winning before Zurich, he was not fighting exactly.
When that victory was finally, it was the security it needed.
“I always said, after winning my first victory, it would free me a ton,” Griffin said on Friday in Memorial. “My mindset has never changed from before I won so far, but I would say that I just feel much more confident in myself and my ability I have done it. I can weigh back on some of those moments returning to Schwab, turning back to Zurich with Andrew, where I hit some really quality strokes and I was able to do it.
“So after doing it several times, it liberates you to continue doing it, you know you can and you keep the pedal down,” he continued. “Before I was playing quite strong golf, but I would also say about my physical and smart game, I just feel like I’m in a really good place to be an elite golf player.”
Griffin opened the memorial with a 65 Thursday, making Birdie in the last three to grab the first superiority with 18 holes in his career. On Friday, in tougher conditions, he made a bird and a noise for an equal principle of 72. In seven underneath, he holds the co-leader with 36 holes with Canadian Nick Taylor.
Already this season Griffin has six 10 best in 18 Starters and has ranked FedEx Cup rankings, sitting in 5th place. He is also the 13th in Ryder Cup ranking.
On Friday he was asked if this is the most fun he had playing golf.
“I don’t think it can get better,” he said. “Someone said I’m the hottest golf player in PGA Tour. I mean, I feel like playing with a ton of confidence. I’m hitting him more or less, where I’m looking with many of my clubs. Golf cyclic, but it’s fun to be at these high levels, and I will just try to stay as much as possible.”
Griffin and Taylor, in the last pairing, began their third round in 3:10 afternoon on Saturday. You can follow together from 2-5: 30 afternoon on Golf Channel, with CBS taking over 5: 30-7: 30 afternoon
