The New York State Athletic Commission has reportedly chose to hold the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis against Lamont Roach a 12-round, rather than turning the results of their collision on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The trek stands standing
Surprisingly, the fight will not be changed to a win for Roach (25-1-2, 10 COs), as WBA lightweight champion Davis (30-0-1, 28 COs) took a knee in the ninth round, a second place after being hit. He then got up and walked back to his corner to wipe his coach’s hair from his eyes without the referee giving a timeout.
Lance Pugmire reported on X That he was told that the Nysac would not change the outcome of the Tank-Roach battle. The scores were 115-113 for tank, 114-114 and 114-114.
It will be interesting to know the rationale of the New York Commission to keep the fight a draw. Regardless of whether Gevonta had hair fat in his eyes, a point must have been pulled off him when he took a knee, and gave a disqualification as he turned his back and walked to his corner to wipe his face.
Boxing fans on social media were not surprised by not changing the results because they felt that the tank’s star -power was making him someone who was receiving special treatment. If the results of the battle are changed by the commission, which gives Gervonta a loss, would he choose never to fight again in New York?
Recover or go on?
Davis Roach is expected to give a re -broadcast, but we will see if he does. He may want to continue if he can wage a more profitable fight against Vasily Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia or Jake Paul.
Roach started slowly in the fight and did not throw many blows in the first half of the competition. But in the second half he worked out the tank, counteracted him and angered him. Out of frustration, Tank Roughhouse Tactics started using Roach and tried everything to get control of the fight. Nothing worked.
