Nitish Reddy will be India’s fourth seamer
The 21-year-old all-rounder is viewed as the fourth seamer by the Indian team management, with the top three comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana.
The surface at Perth’s Optus Stadium will have plenty of bounce and carry and it will be the perfect time to unleash Reddy, who can take full advantage of the conditions on offer.
Nitish Reddy was chosen over Shardul Thakur despite the latter’s past heroics. The youngster got the nod from head coach Gautam Gambhir and was given the nod for the marquee Test series.
Reddy has played 3 T20Is for the Indian National Cricket Team so far and has been very impressive. Talking about his first-class record, he played 23 matches and scored 779 runs at an average of 21.05. With the ball, he took 56 first-class wickets.
Rohit Sharma out of Perth Test
As Nitish Reddy made his Test debut, he will not be playing under Rohit Sharma as the Indian captain decided to skip the Perth Test.
Rohit Sharma did not travel to Australia with the Indian team and stayed in Mumbai to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. They welcomed a baby boy on November 15 and Rohit decided to stay with his family for a while longer.
The Indian skipper has officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision to miss the match and designated vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will take over the leadership duties.
