Neymar was tears on the pitch, as Santos supported a 6-0 loss at Vasco da Gama’s house, the heaviest defeat of his career.
The defeat scored the first time Santos has awarded six goals at home in a series of the series in Brazilian, leaving the champions eight times only two points above the relegation zone. The result also cost coach Cleber Xavier his work, with the club that announced his looting a few hours after the game.
Vasco’s victory, the first in six league games and his largest in 17 years, was highlighted by former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker, Philippe Coutinho, scoring twice.
Speaking after the game, Neymar did not retain his frustration.
“I am embarrassed,” he said. “I am totally disappointed with our performance. The fans have all the right to protest, obviously without using violence. But if they want to curse and insult, they are to their right.”
At his emotional departure from the field, Neymar added, “I have never experienced it in my life. Tears were from anger, everything. Unfortunately, I can’t help but all the senses.”
Santos was first relegated in his history by 2023 before recovering the upper flight last season. Neymar, who arrived at the ranks of the club’s young people before leaving for Barcelona in 2013, returned to a short -term contract in January and since then has provided six goals and three assists of 21 appearances in all competitions.
Reflecting on the humble loss, Neymar said, “It’s a shame to play like that carrying Santos’ sweater. Everyone has to put their heads on the pillow and think about what they want to do.”
