Newcastle United are exploring a significant move to sign Nottingham Forest striker Anthony Elanga before the transfer window closes.
According to the last of TalkSportthe Magpies are ready to make a last-minute bid to secure the services of the Swedish striker, ahead of Manchester United.
The report states that Nottingham Forest are demanding around £35m for the 22-year-old, and discussions between the two clubs are said to be progressing.
It is not the first time that Newcastle have shown an interest in Elanga; they pursued him earlier in the transfer window but were unable to seal a deal at the time.
Now, as the deadline nears, there is growing expectation that a deal could be completed.
However, securing Elanga may not be straightforward.
Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett reports that Newcastle have already received a £35m bid for Nottingham Forest, who are resisting an even higher bid.
Dorsett suggests it will take a “silly bid” from Newcastle to convince Forest to part with the Sweden international at the last minute.
#nffc have flatly refused #nufc £35m bid for Antony Elanga. Forest does not want to sell. And I’m told it would take a “silly” offer for the club to be interested in leaving a hole the size of Elanga in the squad so late in the window.

If the transfer goes through, Manchester United will benefit financially from the transfer.
Newcastle have £35m bid rejected
Elanga joined Nottingham Forest from United for £15m earlier this year, and as part of that deal United included a sell-on clause.
This means the Red Devils will receive a share of any transfer fee Forest secure for Elanga, which could represent a significant windfall if the deal goes through.
As the transfer window draws to a close, all eyes will be on whether Newcastle can complete a deal for Elanga, bolstering their attacking options for next season.
