Newcastle houses the exhibition “Road to Wembley” that celebrates the triumph of the Carabao Cup

Newcastle United for Silverware’s long wait finally ended last season when they lifted the Carabao Cup, and the club marked the historical moment with a unique exhibition that captured the spirit of their trip to glory.

“The way to Wembley”Housed at the Baltic Center for Contemporary Art in collaboration with Versus, it offered supporters an immersive and documentary re-section of the success of the Magpies Cup.

The exhibition featured more than 100 photographs by Serena Taylor Club photographer, Harriet Massey and Michelle Mercer, each of the campaigns that capture the intimate moments of the campaign. Visitors also experienced film screens, World Flags Fan Group and the rare opportunity to sit next to the Carabao Cup Trophy.

The launch event included a panel with commissioners Ewen Spencer and Jimmy Turrell, next to Newcastle’s legend, Rob Lee, before the celebrations were poured at night with a DJ set.

The central piece of history, of course, was the 2-1 victory of Newcastle on Liverpool in the final, sealed by the decisive strike of Alexander Isak.

With Swedes who are now not so sophisticated to move to Liverpool, no less, the exhibition may have accidentally duplicated as their own farewell tour, a reminder that even if heroes do not always stick, memories (and trophy) are here to stay.
