New Zealand‘s fast-bowling spearhead, Loki Fergusonwas ruled out of the upcoming ODI series Sri Lanka due to a calf injury. The news came a day after Ferguson’s spectacular performance in the second T20I, where he took a superb hat-trick and led his team to a series-levelling win. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on November 13 in Dambulla.
The hero of the hat-trick suffered a calf injury
Ferguson produced a superb spell of bowling in the second T20I, taking three wickets for just seven runs in two overs. The hat-trick was instrumental in New Zealand’s defense of a lowly target of 108 and helped the Black Caps to victory and Level the 2-match T20I series. Unfortunately, he suffered a calf injury during the second innings that ruled him out.
After this setback, Ferguson will return home for further tests to assess the severity of the injury and plan his recovery. New Zealand head coach, Gary SteadHe expressed his disappointment at losing Ferguson’s experience and leadership for the series.
“We’re pissed off about Lockie. He has shown how valuable he is with the ball just twice and he has also brought a lot of leadership to this group, so it will be a big loss for us going into an important ODI series.” Stead said in an official statement.

Lockie Ferguson’s replacement has been announced
In response to Ferguson’s absence, New Zealand Cricket announced this Adam Milne Will step up for the ODI series. Known for his pace and experience, Milne last represented New Zealand in the home T20I series against Australia earlier this year.
“It’s always difficult to be ruled out so early in the tour, but we hope his recovery will be short and he’ll be back on the pitch soon. Adam is a fantastic replacement who brings real pace and plenty of international experience, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him back into the fold.” Stead added.
