New Pinehurst No. 11 will be different from anything else in property

One of the most famous golf destinations is to win another course.

Pinehurst Resort announced the creation of no. 11, the second course in the Pinehurst Sand Minors area of the property.

Construction in Pinehurst No. 11 will start this year. The design of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw is expected to open at the end of 2027, just over two years from now.

Nr. 11 Join Tom Doak’s model of Pinhurst No. 10 on the 900 -acre site that was once mined for its deep sand reservoirs.

There will be a 6,000 -square -foot shop and a locker that opens this June and the restaurant and grass of sand mines will be open to business in August. Plans for housing for guests who stand on property are ongoing and may be in place by the end of 2027.

Coore and Crenshaw are not strangers to Pinhurst as the fertile design duo were responsible for the multi-face restoration of no. 2 more than 15 years ago. This work was about the return of the masterpiece Donald Ross to its original spirit; This time Coore and Crenshaw will start all over again.

“It’S’Se a wonderful site, just because of its inherent character,” Coore said. “This character was essentially created, not all are natural, but all have been recovered by nature. This land has remained from all that mine from the 1930s. The loot groups are here, and Mother Nature provided trees, and is all extraordinary. It is not often you get that kind of combination and creates a site that is extremely interesting for golf.”

While layout No. 10 is known for its wide spaces, No. 11 plans to be more winding and twisting with noisy ridges and massive tumuli to play over and around.

“Both courses really couldn’t be different, and we love it,” said Tom Pasley, president of Pinhurst Resort. “Models of No. 10 and No. 11 complement each other so well opposing so much. Golf in Sandhills in North Carolina can be a different experience from any other and we believe that Golf in Pinehurst Sand mine will be an excellent representation of this.”

There are many types of assets in the Sandhills region of North Carolina, but it is believed that the number 11 course has different characteristics made by man and natural-everything else in the area.

“This strange land is of the ridge,” Coore said. “It’s not so much change in height, but it’s so weird with ridges and piles and trees and angles. This will be so intimate on the stairs. You are scraping your way through trees and over old and ridges. We are away, far, from the sea, but we have these contours and features and lands that remind you of Ireland or Scotland.

I can’t wait. There are few better places to play golf in the country than Pinhurst. The property looks incredible and will be a departure from what we usually expect from the Pinehurst Golf experience.

This is another reason to visit. I am hoping that adding another course will help in the ever present demand of players passing through North Carolina.
