control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss FedEx’s revised payments, Liv Chief PGA Tour’s remarks and how we would improve degrees.
FedEx Cup payments are changing. While the Play Off-Capping tour championship used to determine players’ loads from FedEx Cup General Prize Fund, the tournament will now remove rewards based on FedEx Cup ranking after the WynDham Championship (last season event) and also after BMW Championship, FedEx Cup Playoff. (The 10 leaders after WynDham will be allocated $ 20 million, with the first bank bank, and the top 30 BMW will share about $ 23 million, with the highest rank player going to the tour championship taking $ 5 million;
Dylan dethier (@dylan_Dethier) :: Sensible looks like the right word for him. Sensitive, straight, equal. This is not necessarily equal thrillingBut at least it means that there will be an increased incentive for players to perform at each stage of the Play -off – and below the regular season. We have not yet seen high monetary actions move the interest of fans in Pro Golf, so perhaps the shocks of erosion have become accurately the main advantage.
Josh Schrock, news editor (@Schrock_and_Awe) :: Yes, everything makes sense. It is good to reward players for good regular seasons and not leave them all by chance in the last three events of Play off. Increded is very difficult to be consistent during an eight-month stretch, so I like that there is a piece to reward those who performed better throughout the season and then have the rest of the money to go to the Play off performance.
Alan Bastable, Executive Editor (@alan_bastable) :: For sure. Remember when Jon Rahm withdrew a few years ago (monetary, anyway) after having a monster season but a weak tour champion? I didn’t feel well. This system is a check against what kind of thing that is happening. Ok, now that we have listed the money, can we include an element of the match in the play off?!
Main points of Brian Campbell from the Classic Profit 2025 John Deere
Does this redefine in the most interesting play off for fans? Or is it really just followers for players?
Dethier: Touched this above but I think the good news is that it is certainly not less Interesting for fans. We need to have more pro in the mix in the tour championship, and means something special to get there. Is there room for improvement? I think so; August stops at Memfis and Atlanta have never been my bag. But that should be fun.
Schrock: I think Dylan hit the right note. Fans just don’t really care if Scottie Scheffler or Rory Mcilroy make $ 30 million or $ 1 million. They want to see subsequent golf. Removing starting shocks and the level of payments differently should at least make the tournament easier to follow and add more drama, but this feels more like a way to calm the players. In recent years, Scheffler has repeatedly criticized the format of the play off calling it “silly” and noting that “you can’t call it a seasonal race if you go down to a tour.” This feels like a way to provide some membership quarrel.
Basic: Yes, yes and yes, Dr. Schrock! A tough view when the best player on the planet does not approve the system. And yes … I can’t understand a more boring topic for fans than hundreds of millions of dollars in front of prices are reallocating. When you start moving the decimal points about $ 2.5 million versus $ 25 million versus $ 250 million – it’s easy to lose interest quickly. But the tournament did not seem to understand that reality in the Livi era. A lot of conversations about bags and rewards and not enough for the benefits of the fan and engagement.
In one Interview with golf.com last weekLiv Scott O’Neil Director General was asked if he thinks Liv needs a deal with PGA Tour. “The platforms we have between what PGA Tour is doing and what Liv is doing are very different,” O’neil said. “The audience is very different. We have a global platform, and we love this notion to get this game in the world. I would say almost everyone I met in Golf want to do what is best for this sport, and we are all so early on this trip. We will all understand what is best over time.” How do you interpret that answer?
Dethier: I would consider that O’neil is seeking coexistence with PGA Tour than a direct union. The talks have been silent in recent months, but O’Neil and Brian Rollapp (on the tournament) are strangers for the sport and the newcomers for this rivalry; Maybe they will be more prone to work together as a result.
Schrock: It seems like another sign that union talks are frozen and can be Doa at this point. The program reported for LIV next season shows that they take even more a global approach, with only five US -based tournaments. It seems that O’neil is silently admitting that both shifts are going in their separate ways and are no longer focused on the union.
PGA Tour just got a champion twice that no one saw it coming
Basic: Right, seduce. Also, as long as this forgotten period has gone, it feels like they may have realized tours that they do not need each other after all. Work 1 for O’Neil should be Bryson’s closing for another decade, regardless of cost. Work 2: Reignite Convos with the official golf ranking in the world if this is not already happening. The inability of Livi’s players to collect ranking points is still the most problematic element of the League when it comes to attracting new talent. Providing points for liver would be a help.
Starting from Open Championship 2026, R&D will hold a final winning-all qualifying-all – “The Last Chance Qualifier” – on the open site (who is Royal Birkdale next year) on Monday before the championship. R&A said the event, which will consist of up to 12 players, was the by -product of a study that revealed that fans want more live Golf and the opportunity to engage with open. Let’s take this exercise one step further: golf powers have given you permission to make a change or improvement in any Major What is your tweak?
Dethier: PGA championship Returns in August – and goes international. But first, it goes to The bosom of the rooms…
Schrock: Let’s turn the clock and do what everyone besides the defense champion should qualify for one of the degrees. Since the PGA Championship is still looking for an identity, I name it as the qualifying major. Next year, Scottie Scheffler is in, and everyone else has to win their way to the fourth major.
Basic: I would like to see the new US amateur champion receive an invitation to both the masters and the US Open. Maybe this would have been a crazy thought a generation ago, but the gap between young people and the elderly has never been narrower. Children can depend.
Speaking to open, this year’s publication, which is connected to RoyalIt’s only two weeks away. Who is your early choice?
Dethier: Tommy Fleetwood is thrown out, though I suspect he will be a popular choice. I am saddened that the last major is on our doorstep, but it must be a scary addition.
Amateur lottie woad IK from strong pros field to win Irish Open of Women’s
Schrock: How did we already get to the last part of the year? The long winter is above us. I feel like Tommy Fleetwood will play well, but I will get ion Rahm. He is a scary player open and we are due to a spice injection again in the PGA Tour-Liv quarrel.
Basic: The heart says Rory, the head says Russ, as in Henley. A winner this year (in Bay Hill and ready in travelers), has been on a heater in recent weeks and ended up in 5th place in Open a year ago. Not a light choice but he is prepared for a great week.
Happy July 4 late! In recognition of America’s birthday, what is the most quintesential experience of the American Golf you received?
Dethier: Every time I order a hot dog in the muna down the road, I can hear the flag of the spangled star playing in the background – what is more American than that?! (This question also feels like an alley to insert my book which is about golf in America. Much type of crew tc.)
Schrock: I will say my college golf journey with my friends who saw us go through Oregon and play everything from Bandon Dunes, to Pumpkin Ridge, to Tokatee, plus a number of entertainment munis in Eugene, Portland and Southern Oregon. A week-week of golf, hot dogs, beers and talk about how Oregon’s ducks always leave us. America! (Likewise, buy Dylan’s book!)
Basic: There will be no shameless plugs for Dylan’s book in my response (even if it were the best part of writing traveling since In the way out), but I will go to the bat for golf courses as optimal places for watching fireworks. For the last two -quarters, I have watched ‘work down the corridor of a golf hole, and both shows were spectacular, with trees beautifully incorporating the colorful explosions in the sky. Also, the fairway grass is really nice to sit.
