ABOUT Nelly Kordaa season that started with tears is ending with a twist.
On Monday, world no DESIGNATED on social media that she is pulling out of scheduled starts at this week’s BMW Ladies event in Korea and next week’s LPGA Tour in Malasia due to a “minor neck injury” she suffered during practice.
“I’m currently resting and working with my team to improve,” said Korda, who is 26 years old.
The injury is the latest wrinkle in a rocky season for Korda.
Earlier in the year, Korda made it five straight LPGA wins, including a major, followed shortly by her sixth win of the season at the Mizuho Americas Open. She seemed invincible until, suddenly, she didn’t, posting a staggering 80 in the opening round of the US Women’s Open in late May. That led to a streak of three straight losing streaks for Korda that included one second round 81 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, which caused her to miss the weekend by one.
“It’s just golf lately for me,” Korda said at the time. “There are no words for the way I’m playing now. I’m just going to go home and try to reset.”
Repeat loops her old self again in the Solheim Cupwhere she finished 3-0-1 in commanding USA victory in Virginia. A week later, she tied for fifth at the Kroger Queen City Championship.
Korda has few weaknesses but has been prone to health problems. In 2022, she underwent an operation for a blood clot in a subclavian vein on her left arm. In 2023, she missed part of the tournaments due to back pain. In June of this year, she pulled out of an event after a dog bit her leg, but she gave few details about exactly what happened. “I just had to go through some medical stuff,” she said.
In the wake of her latest setback, Korda did not say when she plans to return to the tournament.
After three events in Asia in the next three weeks, the LPGA returns to the US for three more tournaments, capped off by the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.
