Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson return as Australia unveil T20I squad for home series against Pakistan



Cricket Australia (CA) announced the men’s T20I squad for the home series against Pakistan scheduled to start soon. In a strategic move to prioritize the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, none of the Test players were included in the squad, signaling Australia’s shift to the longer format.

New skipper to lead Australia in shortest format

Absence of Test players including current T20I captain Mitchell Marshmeans Australia will see a new captain for this series. Although CA is yet to officially announce the captain, reports suggest so Josh Inglis, Adam Zampaand Matthew Short are potential candidates to lead the party. Interestingly, none of these players have captained Australia in any format before.

Return of fast bowlers after injury layoff

The squad sees a return of fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnsonand Nathan Ellisall of them were ruled out by injuries during or before Australia’s recent limited-overs tour of the United Kingdom (UK). Johnson made a successful comeback for South Australia in the One Day Cup at the weekend, while Bartlett and Ellis are yet to return to domestic action following injuries.

The role of coach was entrusted to Andre Borovech

Andre Borovec He will take over the role of coach for the T20I series against Pakistan, a position he previously held during last year’s five-match T20I series against India. Head coach Andrew McDonaldalong with regular assistants Michael di Venuto and Daniel Vettoriwill oversee the previous ODI series against Pakistan before shifting their focus to the Test matches.
