The former cricketer predicted it Gujarat Titans (GT) can’t keep up Muhammad Shamifor the upcoming IPL 2025 despite their stellar performances in past seasons.

He highlighted that GT may overlook Mohammad Shami due to lingering injury concerns and opt to retain only three capped players in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.

Aakash Chopra predicts Mohammad Shami and David Miller likely to be left out by Gujarat Titans (GT)

His absence from IPL 2024 and his continued recovery have raised doubts about his future with GT. Chopra said the IPL 2022 champions may choose to retain only three capped players for the upcoming auction, including captain Shubman Gill and star spinner Rashid Khan.

According to the commentator, Gill’s batting brilliance and Rashid’s magic with the ball make them invaluable assets for the Titans. However, the third hold may surprise many as Chopra leans towards Sai Sudharsan, extolling his potential market value if released into the auction pool.

The real shocker came when Chopra suggested GT not to retain any other marquee players, including Shami. Citing Mohammed Shami’s injury woes, Chopra expressed doubt over the long-term fitness of the star Indian pacer and hinted that GT might look out for him.

In addition, Chopra pointed to veteran stars like Kane Williamson and David Miller also can’t cut to hold. According to a cricket pundit, Williamson and Miller will not fetch the high price tag that justifies their high-level retention.

With GT potentially looking to revamp its squad, a major shake-up could be on the horizon ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025, but Chopra felt one thing was clear: Mohammad Shami’s future with the Titans is far from certain and the upcoming mega auction. it could be a game changer for them.

GT may not retain Shami due to injury concerns: Chopra

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “One will be a very simple catch where you have to keep Shubman Gill. The second is unreasonable; this is Rashid Khan. You should keep it too. I feel Sai Sudharsan is the third player they should keep. If Sai Sudharsan goes to the market, he will definitely get 8-10 crores and you will be able to keep him with 11 crores.

Chopra added, “After that, they don’t have any other player worth 18 crores, if you let them go, 18 crores will be sold, be it Kane Williamson, Mohammed Shami, David Miller or any other name. I say that this team will not be able to keep Shami because he is injured.”

In the end, Chopra suggested that GT could retain two loose players – Rahul Tewatia and Mohit Sharma – for four crores each. He added that they could use a right-to-match (RTM) card for Miller, but they could also waive him and look for other options.

Chopra signed off by predicting that GT will target a wicketkeeper-batsman like Phil Salt in the IPL 2025 mega auction as Wriddhiman Saha may no longer be effective. Besides, they can use RTM card for Noor Ahmed or Shami.
