Top international umpire Anil Chaudhary has suggested a new career option for legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni. Chaudhary feels that Dhoni’s ability to make accurate DRS calls makes him an excellent umpire candidate for the future.
MS Dhoni’s ability to garner rave reviews during his playing days was appreciated. Dhoni had the ability to judge DRS calls to perfection and this really resulted in close DRS decisions going in India’s favour.
Pundits were so impressed with Dhoni’s ability to make successful DRS calls that the term ‘Decision Review System’ was sometimes referred to as the ‘Dhoni Review System’. Judge Anil Chaudhary has witnessed such incidents many times.
Anil Chaudhary suggests the next career option for MS Dhoni
Anil Chaudhary has officiated many games when MS Dhoni was a regular player. Even now during the IPL, Chaudhary officiates matches involving MS Dhoni.
During a podcast with Shubhanka Mishra on his YouTube channel, Chaudhary revealed that Dhoni is the most accurate to use DRS and has many insights about the game.
“It’s not always the case (Dhoni is right), sometimes it’s the other way around, but it’s close to accurate. He has a lot of ideas about the game,” Chaudhary said on the podcast.
The 59-year-old umpire further noted that MS Dhoni is close to accurate and sometimes prevents others from addressing as well. He suggested that Dhoni could have a good umpiring career in the future.
“He (Dhoni) is close to accurate. It often prevents others from applying. He can be a good umpire if he is ready to stay on the floor for seven hours,” Chaudhary added.
Anil Chaudhary hails Rishabh Pant’s transformation
Anil Chaudhary also hailed Rishabh Pant’s transformation into an accurate keeper while taking DRS decisions. He added that goalkeepers have the best position on the ground because they can track the ball.
“Rishabh Pant has also improved a lot from previous days. It’s all about experience – you watch replays and then reevaluate your calls.
“The goalkeeper has the best position to stay focused, they are still and can follow the trajectory of the ball. In fact, the best referees sometimes base their decisions on the movement of the goalkeepers because they are following the ball,” Chaudhary believes.
It is often found that captains usually consult the keeper before deciding whether or not to take DRS. This makes the role of wicketkeepers very important when making a DRS call.
A good and experienced goalkeeper can be really useful and make a difference for his team in such situations.
Anil Chaudhary is an experienced umpire and is currently among the top three umpires in India. He has umpired 4 Tests, 26 ODIs and 44 T20Is so far in his career. Apart from international matches, he regularly performs in IPL matches. He is currently refereeing the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2024.
