Motul Solidarity Grand Prix Barcelona Awarded Best Race of 2024 – Road Racing World Magazine

The Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona has been named the best Grand Prix of 2024. A truly memorable finish, the event had it all – from its impact beyond the sport to the history of our journey to the Valencia race when Jorge Martin won his first. MotoGP™ World Championship.

Organized in record time, the Solidarity GP 2024 set a record for MotoGP as the sold-out capacity exceeded 3 million in season attendance for the first time in history.

As the best GP winner voted by the Teams Association (IRTA) and approved by the Grand Prix Commission, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya now offers the 2024 title.

Miquel Samper, Minister of Trade and Labor of the Généraltat de Catalunya and President of the Cirque de Barcelona-Catalunya: “The Motul Solidarity Grand Prix has demonstrated the incredible power of solidarity in Barcelona. It was a logistical and organizational challenge with an amazing response from the professionals at the circuit, the Grand Prix promoter Dorna, the teams and most importantly the fans who came out in support of the Valencian. And all those who were hurt by Dana’s injury.”

IRTA President Hervé Poncharal: “We are very proud of how the sport has come together in Barcelona. The incredible impact of the Solidarity GP race on Valencia is something we all contributed to, and the incredible effort put into organizing an event in such a short time makes it even more special. For that alone, it is a candidate for Best GP Leader.” But it’s a really classy event in every way.

“Sporting history was made by the first independent team rider to win the MotoGP crown, all capacity is sold out, everything in the paddock is organized and the event is presented as we started planning it months in advance. All we can say is thanks to Cirque de Barcelona-Catalunya and its staff, thanks to everyone who worked well together in the sport, and thanks to the fans who came to the end of the season to see history. They did, and in doing so, contributed greatly to our collective efforts to support Valencia in its time of need.

Carmelo Izpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sport: “The Solidarity GP was one of the greatest events in the modern history of our sport. We want to thank everyone who did it and congratulate the Cirque de Barcelona-Catalunya for receiving this award. It’s a testament to everything we’ve worked together behind the scenes to create an incredible show, fantastic atmosphere and extraordinary positive impact. That’s MotoGP’s DNA.

“Finally, we want to thank the fans for making it a sold-out event. We couldn’t have dreamed that when we first announced this Grand Prix, but when the ticket sales opened we realized it would be even more special than we imagined. Thank you for your love for this sport and for being a big part of everything we have achieved together with Valencia Racing.”
