Gardner Wild-Card Entry at Japanese Grand Prix with Yamaha Factory Racing Team
Iwata (Japan), September 28, 2024
Yamaha Motor Co
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. In the 2024 FIM MotoGP World Championship, Remy Gardner is delighted to announce his wild card entry for the 16th round of the Japanese MotoGP Grand Prix. The Yamaha Factory Racing Team will ride the YZR-M1 (with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP livery) at the Activity Resort Motegi circuit on 4 – 6 October.
Gardner had already ridden the 2024 Yamaha YZR-M1 at the German GP and the British GP, making him a favorite for the Yamaha Factory Racing Team for their home GP. The former Moto2 World Champion’s participation in the 2024 Japanese GP will be the first time he has ridden a premier-class bike at the Motegi track since 2022.

Bike development is at the heart of Yamaha’s every move this year. The engineers are working very hard, and I am fully confident that this wild card entry will speed up Yamaha’s efforts to develop prototype parts and increase the bike’s performance. Remy Gardner successfully tested materials for the M1 Protype on two occasions earlier this year, so his previous experience makes him a logical choice during Cal Crutchlow’s injury absence.

I’m really looking forward to racing in Japan, it’s a country I enjoy visiting in Grand Prix racing, but to go to Japan and race for a Japanese manufacturer in MotoGP in front of Japanese fans will be something special. It’s good that Yamaha asked me to come back after the Saxonring and Silverstone. They obviously feel that I have brought something to the development programme, so hopefully we can have a productive weekend in Motegi as well. It’s going to be a busy time for me with five races in five weeks, but I ride the bike almost every weekend, so it’s nothing new for me!
