2024 Moto3 World Champion David Alonso won the FIM Moto3 World Championship at Phillip Island, Australia on Sunday. Using his Pirelli-shod Gaviota Aspar Team CFMOTO, the Colombian won the 21-lap race by 2.936 seconds.
Spaniard Daniel Holgado finished 2nd on his Red Bull GAASGAS Tech 3 machine.
Adrian Fernandez crossed the finish line third in his Leopard Racing Honda.

Alonso’s pace grows as Holgado takes P2 at Phillip Island. The Colombian scored his historic 11th win of the season in Australia, defeating Holgado and Fernandez.
David Alonso (CFmoto Gaviota Aspar Team) is the winner of the Qatar Airways Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix Phillip Island Masters class from P10 on the grid. The Colombian fought hard to win with 2.936s and build a comfortable lead in the final stage to make Valentino Rossi’s 11th win in the lightweight division in one season. Alonso took victory over Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), the Spaniard charged from P14 on the grid to claim a photo finish podium. Holgado beat Adrian Fernandez (Tiger Racing) by just 0.003 seconds.
Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) made an impressive start from pole position, but a mistake in Turn 2 allowed David Munoz (BOE Motorsports) to take the early lead as he dropped to second in the #48. Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports) soon attacked on lap 2 to take the lead in the cage for the first time, making moves at every opportunity.
Stefano Nepa (LEVELUP – MTA) had a tough job ahead of him, with the #82 forced to serve a double long lap during the Grand Prix. Nepa got off to an impressive start, taking the lead briefly on lap 2 before taking his first long lap on lap 2 before serving his second on lap 4 – back to 19th.Th.
Meanwhile, a large group began to form at the front, with newly crowned champion Alonso soon entering P1 for the first time. Slipstream proved crucial at Phillip Island, with Holgado entering the podium after a challenging performance saw the Spaniard start from the fifth row of the grid.
There would be more backstage drama for some of the key contenders as Colin Weir (Leaky Molly Husvarna Intact GP) and Ortola crashed at Turn 4. Alonso controlled the front until a mistake on lap 14 dropped the #80 to third, with Munoz and Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI) now stuck to the tailpipe. As Fernandez led the field in P1, Yamanaka began to battle Alonso.
It was building to be another showpiece finish at Phillip Island, with Alonso making appearances at 11Th Victory of the season. The Colombian put the hammer down with three laps to go and showed his true speed by opening up a gap behind him. With Holgado and Fernández completing the podium, no one could come close, allowing Alonso to continue making history.
He took fourth over the line after successfully serving a double-long lap at NEPA in a tense fourth race. Meanwhile, Munoz completed the top five with a strong finish in Australia after an impressive finish. Yamanaka crosses the line in sixth place, as the sole MT Helmets – MSI rider and crosses the line with Taio Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) in eighth place.
Meanwhile, Jose Antonio Ruda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Angel Piqueras (Tiger Racing) won 10, while Kelso could only manage 11.Th at home. The Aussies took more points, with Riccardo Rossi (CIP Green Power) taking the flag with 12Th Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Jacob Roulstone finished a strong weekend in 13thTh. Meanwhile, Matteo Bertelle (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team) is ahead of Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), who took the final points on Sunday.
