Moto3: World Championship Race Results from Motegi – Road Racing World Magazine


David Alonso won the Moto3 World Championship on Sunday in Motegi, Japan. Riding his Gaviota Aspar Team CFMOTO on special Pirelli tires, the young Colombian won the 17-lap race by 0.524 seconds. With the win, Alonso became the Moto3 World Champion.

Colin Weger was the runner-up on the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Inact GP race bike.

Adrian Fernandez was third on the Leopard Racing Honda.

David Alonso won the Japanese Grand Prix to become the first Colombian world champion.

David Alonso (CFmoto Gaviota Aspar Team) made history at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan with the #80 having his moment in the sun as he became the first ever Colombian World Champion. It was a day to remember for the entire Aspar team after an impressive season for Alonso, who took 10th.Th Season’s Grand Prix win – honors by 0.524s Alonso took victory from Colin Weijer (Leaky Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), beating Dutchman Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) to complete a brilliant podium finish.

It was a dramatic lap for Alonso, who almost crashed and broke the screen of his bike. The team calmed down, adjusted the machine in time and allowed Alonso to claim a good start, moving into P2 behind Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI), who went into the lead in turn #1. Meanwhile, Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GAASGAS Tech3) started working hard from the start, from ninth on the grid in the field to the top five – soon he set sights on the podium.

Holgado took the lead for the first time on lap 3 before Fernandez pulled off a stunning two-way victory at turn 5. Alonso started to lose places in the early laps, dropping to seventh behind David Munoz (BOE Motorsports) – with Jose Antonio Ruda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) now stuck at the tail of the #80s.

A massive train formed at the front, with Fernández setting a red-hot pace, allowing the #31 to pull away by a small margin from Holgado, who was under pressure from Ortola and Angel Piqueras (Tiger Racing). Ortola moved into P2 as Joel Kelso’s (BOE Motorsports) day ended in a crash. Rider ok.

With the gloves off halfway through the race, Alonso soon moved into the top five before passing Piquéras for fourth on lap 10. #80 made his first attempt to get around Holgado in turn 10.

After a strong start, Weger struggled through the field and started to make moves. The Dutchman was soon involved in a fierce battle with Holgado, with Vejer closing in on Fernandez.

In the closing stages, Alonso opened up a four-tenths margin, and Ortola lost the head-to-head in the 10th lap. It was a strong final round and the Colombian took a step closer to the World Championship at every corner. At the flag, it was a magical day to meet Alonso, who made history and became the Moto3 World Champion.

Holgado could only manage fourth after a hot ride from the #96, which pushed him hard on all 17 laps. Ruda rounded out the top five, with Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI) taking home a solid sixth place. Yamanaka crossed the line ahead of compatriot Tatsuki Suzuki (Leaky Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), while BOE Motorsports’ David Munoz was eighth.

Meanwhile, Taio Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and LEVELUP – MTA’s Stefano Nepa took the last place in the top 10. Also Kopron Rivacold Sniper Team Matteo Bertelle and David Almansa took strong points in the top 11.Th and 12Th Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) 13Th.
