Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports) grabbed his first Moto3™ pole after a stunning late performance at the Thailand PT Grand Prix. #66 set a 1:40.603 and tied with Jack Miller’s 1:40.603. The Dutchman was one of the first riders out of the pitlane on the final run, securing a front row start for Sunday. Meanwhile, Angel Piquerras (Tiger Racing) failed to improve in his second run, missing pole after looking strong in the opening stages of Q2.

Practice 2 saw more drama unfold on Saturday morning as Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) became the new pace setter with a 1:40.577, setting the stage for qualifying. Once Q1 started, fast times began to set in with Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) leading the standings followed by Matteo Bertelli (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team), Joel Esteban (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) and LEVELUP – MTA’s Stefano Nepa.

When Q2 started, it was quick action, with Piqueras starting the early benchmarks – sitting comfortably in P1 after the first run. Tensions began to build as the second race began, with the Moto3™ stars looking for prime position on the circuit. The Piqueras group of riders left the pitlane late to make up time on their final run, leaving a handful of riders to compete for the pole, with Kelso coming out on top.

Furusato continued his impressive form on Saturday, jumping to fourth on the grid – leading the second row. The #72 started ahead of the newly crowned Moto3™ World Champion, who just missed the final race – claiming P5 on the grid. The Colombian showed encouraging pace throughout the weekend and will be joined on the second row by FleetSafe Honda – MLav Racing’s Scott Ogden for the #19’s great performance.

Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) will start from seventh on the grid, aiming to repeat his pace from Australia. Holgado has tough competition on the third row joined by David Almansa (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team) and Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) #96. Further back, Jose Antonio Ruda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and BOE Motorsports’ David Munoz had work to do from 16th and 17th respectively.
