Aaron Canet (Fantic Racing) won the battle at the PT Grand Prix of Thailand for the #44 in testing conditions after an impressive ride. Canet took the lead in the opening laps, maintaining his advantage in the closing stages as the weather conditions red flagged. Kanet won by 2.523s from Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI), who crossed the line by a second, which proved to be enough to become the 2024 Moto2™ World Champion. It was a hard-fought race for #79, making history as the first Asian Talent Cup rider to become Grand Prix World Champion. Ogura crossed the line and beat Marcos Ramirez (US fans only) in P3.

Ogura confirmed the dream in Turn 1, carving out the lead into Turn 3 before Kanet attacked early, and it didn’t take long for the #79 to respond as Ogura and Kanet traded blows on the opening lap. Ogura created a chance in the 10th round, moving into the podium places, with a view to winning the world championship. Four laps later the next move went to Ogura, who stole second from Ramirez and showed a one-second gap to Kanet.

There were patches of rain in the air as Kanet secured the advantage, adding to the drama at Buriram. Further back, home hero Somkyat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) started to make a move, getting into the top five before battling Moreira for fourth.

Everything changed at the red flag, as the rain got heavier, allowing Canet to secure victory, Ogura becoming the first Japanese rider to win a world title since 2009, and Ramirez celebrated – Sunday’s podium.

Chantra took a notable P4 finish as he gained incredible speed in the latter stages to the delight of the home crowd. # 35 impressed Morera to secure the final spot in the final five.
