Morrell’s unknown status a PPV barrier, says Hearn

Promoter Eddie Hearn predicts this Saturday’s David Banavidez against David Morrell event will not be a PPV success on PBC Prime video on February 1st. Hearn says it did not sell ‘at the gate’ in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Morrell’s unknown

The six-year-old Pro Morrell (11-0, 9 COs) is not well known to fans to want to buy them the opportunity on pay-per-view. Morrell had excellent amateur evidence while in the Cuban national team, but he was not seen by American fans enough for the opportunity to sell.

Hearn mentions that Morrell, 27, is not known by fans, which will harm PPV’s success. Banavidez needed a more famous fighter to bring in the sale. If benavidez lost this battle, he was sunk. He will never be a PPV star and will have to focus on his plan B, to Cruiserweight.

What Hearn omits is that Benavidez is also not a PPV draw. And although hardcore box fans know him well, he is not a big name among casual fans, and he was not a PPV attraction. Banavidez did not bring large PPV numbers for his fighting against Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade. These are the biggest names on his 12-year-old resume.

Banavidez would be a much more popular fighter if he moved up to 175 years ago, rather than staying at 168 and chasing a fight against Canelo Alvarez. This is why he has stayed at Super Middlight all these years. Benavidez hoped to get a profitable fight against Canelo, but it never happened.

“I’ll tell you something now. Not much, and it didn’t sell very well at the gate, ”Eddie Hearn said Pro Boxing fans On the question of how much ppv will buy David Banavidez against David Morrell event on PBC Prime video This Saturday night.

“What I will tell you is that it is a fantastic battle. The problem is with the struggle that no one knows who David Morrell is, and it’s a very good fight, ‘says Hearn.

Can they sell?

The Benavidez-Morrell bottom map contains two excellent fights: WBC featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa against Stephen Fulton in a Rematch and former WBA Light Welterweight Champion Issac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz vs. Angel Fierro. However, these two competitions are not large enough to compensate for the lack of name recognition for the Benavidez vs. morrell Main event.

Unfortunately, the 175 -pound division does not have popular fighters except Artur Betterbiev and Dmitri Biscvol. Those guys are already tied up.
