The last punch statistics showed that David Banavidez was pushing 59 more than David Morrell in their 12-round competition, but the Cuban shots were more powerful and harmful. Banavidez won the battle with a unanimous 12 round decision. The scores were 115-111 x 2 and 118-108. Most fans saw it as a razor rash, with benavidez ending it.
Sample to mortal
The face of the Ecuadoran/Mexican monster was beaten at the end, swollen and bruised. Morrell’s push made a mess of benavidez’s face. He looked like a monster in real terms. The only thing that was missing was bolts on his neck.
Punch statistics
- BANAVIDEZ – 224 of 553 shots for a 40.5% connection rate
- Morrell – 165 of 601 strokes for 27.5%
The shots with which Morrell beat him hit him in the 11th round after dropping the American hard on the canvas. The point of Morrell at the end of the 11th saved Banavidez’s skin because it interrupted the flow of the competition. It also gave him time to recover from the beat he took in that round of Cuban talent.
Benavidez (30-0, 24 CO’s) was injured several times by Morrell (11-1, 8 COs) and knocked down in the 11th round. ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez won the battle with a unanimous decision of twelve round but his Stock has dropped of the performance.
Benavidez’s deception
“I’m excited to keep going on big fights, filling arenas, calling out the best guys,” Benavidez said after his fight with David Morrell. “I developed as a fighter. I become my own character.
“I’ll be the face of boxing soon and talk about the sport,” Benavidez continued. “Have you seen that capital letters end up? Put his left hand out of the way to land the uppercase letters. “
Banavidez sounded deceived after the fight and saw a future that clearly did not exist. He is not going to be the ‘face of box’ with the kind of performance. If there is anything, he will soon be on Skidrow and try to pick up the pieces of his career.
Power problems continue
Morrell showed last night that benavidez does not have the doll in his blows to beat the best in the 175 pound division, and he will undo if he faces the winner of the Artur Betterbiev against Dmitri Bivol 2 Rematch.
It was the second fight in a row that benavidez showed a lack of power and endurance. We saw the same thing about him in his battle in June against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Las Vegas.
Benavidez blamed his poor performance and lack of power to two injured hands. What was his excuse for how he did against Morrell? There is no one. He just can’t hit the 175 -pound division and has the power of a typical 154 pounds.
There are guys in that section that can hit harder than benavidez, such as Bakhram Murtazaliev, Serhii Bohachuk, and Vergil Ortiz Jr.
