NORMAN WOODCOCK MEMORIAL RELAYS, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, 3 November
Gosforth High Park hosted this mixed road race event where each team had to include one female and Morpeth Harriers came out on top overall.
However, they had to come from behind and it was their Tom Balsdon who saw them home in the fastest time of the day in 8:03 for the 1.66 mile lap.
Earlier it was Tyne Bridge who took the lead after Zac Catley’s 8:08, before Joe Woodcock led the women’s leg for Heaton to give them the lead midway through the race. Morpeth then won by just four seconds.
Former three-time English schools champion Justina Heslop was part of Elswick’s top three over-40s and fastest W40 trio as multiple British masters champion Guy Bracken gave North Shields Poly’s over-60s the best start with the fastest M60 lap.

Olympic runner Phil Norman won in 49:58 overall to retain his Bideford title and make it three in a row, but deep in the field, the W65 British 10 mile was bested by Claudine Benstead, 68, of Okehampton. :25.
This was more than two minutes better than Sue Haslam’s previous best of five years.
