Wells Indian, California – as a good French wine – think burgundy or bordeaux – magic, mythical, monumental Gael monfils It seems to be getting better with age. On Saturday night in Indian Wells he decanted his splendor against Sebastian Korda and carved part of the master’s 1000 story.

38-year-old Monfils Edged Cord 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) to become the third oldest player ever reached the third round at a Master’s 1000 event.

Monfils was better in great times, and excellent all over, as he brought the American 24 and put on a third round clash with Grigor Dimitrov in the 14th.

A quarter -finalist twice in Indian Wells, Monfils is one of just five active players to own 20 or more wins at the event. He improves in life 22-14 in the California Desert with his victory, and 11-3 a season. Earlier this year in Auckland, Monfils became the oldest player to ever win an ATP title when he defeated Zizou Bergs in the final.

Only Jimmy Connors 39-year-old, in Miami in 1992, and Ivo Karlovic 40-year-old in Indian Wells in 2019, reached the third round at a Master’s 1000 event at a more advanced age.
