Mohammad Shami is all set to make his much-awaited return to the international arena after over a year with the five-match T20I series against England. He was also selected in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
As the T20I series prepares to begin on Wednesday, January 22 at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens, the BCCI shared a heartwarming video on social media in which Shami chronicles his journey and inspiration while flying a kite.
The video starts with the Indian pacer sharing that it has been a long time since he last flew a kite as cricket keeps him busy, but he can still fly a kite and knows how to keep it balanced. Even Shami made a meaningful connection between kite flying and playing cricket.
The balance of the kite is like the creatures in cricket: Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami compared the balance needed to fly a kite to the rhythm and focus required on the field. The seasoned pacer stressed that maintaining fitness, mindset and skills is as important in bowling as it is in batting, but it is always about confidence.

Mohammad Shami said in a video shared by BTSO on social media: “The balance of the kite is like the creatures in cricket; If you decide to crease, you will score runs and wickets. Rhythm is very important; everything in life has a flow. Regardless, your fitness, mindset and skill are essential to bowling.
The same goes for the kite. It doesn’t matter if you are flying a kite, bowling or driving a car; if you are strong and believe in yourself then i don’t think you will find any difference. Look, I can still fly this kite after 15 years. That’s why trust is important for every business.”
‘You mustn’t give up your stubbornness’
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old owes his successful recovery to his resilience and determination. Shami said his constant desire to return to the field and represent his country motivated him during his long journey.
However, the Indian pacer admitted that he felt a bit scared at first while running, but he managed to overcome it completely.
Mohammad Shami further explained his opinion: “When we are little, our parents teach us to walk, so we fall down and get up, but we never stop learning to walk, so you must not give up your stubbornness. Even if you fall, you have to get up and walk again, so in the same profession, if you get injured, you have to work hard for your team and your country, so I always say this: keep fighting, keep going. .”

Mohammed Shami says injuries make him a stronger player
The Bengal pacer also mentioned that when a player is good, everyone is on his side, but he faces a real test when he is in trouble.
Shami said he waited for a whole year and worked hard to come back. He noted that the injuries made him stronger as an athlete because he had to repeat a lot of things while being mentally strong.
Mohammad Shami said that he always believes in hard work and that his difficult phase is over. The Indian pacer said setbacks are a part of life but the key is to get back up and keep moving forward. Injuries can knock you down, but the determination to bounce back for your team and country is what really matters. Shami said, “So fight and grow!”
After trying times and a long wait, he’s back to wearing the blues 💙
