India fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj on Friday (October 11) officially took over as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after reporting to the Director General of Police (DGP) Telangana.
In July this year, the Telangana government announced Group-1 jobs for cricketer and two-time world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen in appreciation of their outstanding performances in their respective sports.
Following the announcement by state Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state government proceeded to amend the Telangana (Regulation of Appointments to Public Services and Rationalization of Staffing and Pay Structure) Act, 1994 to facilitate appointments.
The Telangana chief minister announced the job for Mohammad Siraj after he helped the Indian team win the T20 World Cup in June. The right-arm pacer was the only player from his home state in the victorious Indian team. Prior to this, the fast-bowler plied his trade with Team India in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup last year.
Last year, he also scored a sensational six in the final against Sri Lanka to help India win the Asia Cup. Currently, Mohammed Siraj is an indispensable part of the Indian team in all three formats. His journey in the game has been absolutely phenomenal.
On his debut in India in 2017, he quickly lost his place after failing to make an impact. However, he struggled with his bowling and was recalled before cementing his place in all three formats.

The 30-year-old was last seen in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Siraj played both the Tests and picked up 4 wickets to help India sweep the series. For the ongoing T20I series between India and Bangladesh, he is one of the few senior players to be rested.
Siraj will return to action later this month when India host New Zealand for a three-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to be played in Bengaluru from October 16. After the New Zealand Tests, Team India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series.
