The Indian National Cricket Team’s timeline to get paceman Mohammad Shami back into action is nearing completion. The star pacer is all set to make a comeback after a long layoff Ranji Trophy 2025 As he can play the first few games for the Bengal state team.
According to reports in ESPNCricinfo, Mohammad Shami has been included in the 31-member probables for the Bengal squad for the upcoming domestic season.
PTI had earlier reported that the fast bowler could feature in the first two games for Bengal against Uttar Pradesh on October 11 and Bihar on October 18.
The target set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly to get Mohammad Shami fully fit ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
There were rumors that the fast bowler might play in the Duleep Trophy 2024 and then return to India for the Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team from September 19.
However, in a new set of reports, it has been reported that the Ranji Trophy will be the window to see Shami make a comeback. After proving his fitness in the domestic circuit, the fast bowler will make a comeback for the Indian National Cricket Team in the New Zealand series in October.
Mohammed Shami can also play in the 4-day games for India A in Australia
The fast bowler may play 4-day games for India A in Australia before the main Test series. The A-Team will be two games down and it will be great preparation for Mohammed Shami to get into his groove ahead of the all-important Test series against the Pat Cummins-led side.
Along with Shami, his brother Mohammad Kaif also finds a place in Bengal’s odds for the Ranji Trophy. Wriddhiman Saha is also included. He left Bengal to play for Tripura in domestic cricket last season. But now he is returning to the state team.
Shami has been working hard at NCA and is making great progress in his recovery from his ankle injury. He is in the final stages of his rehabilitation and resumed bowling last month after a long injury layoff. The coaches there will also increase his workload.
Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami has been out of action since the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023.
He underwent an operation on his right Achilles tendon in February and missed many games for the Indian National Cricket Team even in the T20 World Cup 2024, which was won by the Men in Blue.
During a media interaction a few months ago, Shami himself had revealed that he would play a few games for Bengal first before making his international comeback. The fast bowler will be extremely important for the Indian team, especially with the big Test series around the corner.
