Premier Pakistan National Cricket Team According to numerous reports, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is ready to take over as the captain of the white ball team.
Rizwan is one of the best modern players of the Pakistan National Cricket Team and he has performed consistently for his team in all the three formats of the game.
Pakistan’s White Ball captaincy is vacant after Babar Azam’s resignation
Babar Azam recently announced his decision to retire from the white-ball captaincy to send shockwaves through the cricket fraternity. It was the second time in 12 months that Babar had stepped down from the captaincy.
After Pakistan National Cricket Team’s failure in ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam was sacked as the white ball captain and he himself gave up the red ball captaincy.
The PCB named Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as their new Test and T20I captains, but no ODI captain was named then.
After a while seriesShaheen Afridi was sacked and Babar was reinstated as T20I captain and he was expected to take over the captaincy duties in ODIs as well. However, before Pakistan’s first appointment in 50-over cricket after the ODI World Cup, Babar resigned from the captaincy.
Why Mohammad Rizwan is the frontrunner to become the Pakistan White Ball Captain?
According to a PTI report, Pakistani voters Aaqib Javed, Azhar AliAleem Dar, Asad Shafiqand Hasan Cheema held meetings with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and discussed the new skipper with white-ball coach Gary Kirsten.
According to the source, Mohammad Rizwan is seen as the perfect successor to Babar Azam due to his seniority, credibility and experience.
“The third Test against England ends on October 28 and the squad has to leave for Australia the next day, so the selectors will announce the white-ball squad by Sunday,” a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.
“Rizwan, because of his seniority, reliability as a player and leadership experience teams is a front-runner to be a good, white-ball captain in domestic cricket and the PSL,” he said.
It should be noted that the selection committee has already discussed with Rizwan and asked him to be the new captain of the side.

The Pakistan National Cricket Team is currently engaged in a three-match Test series against the England National Cricket Team and after the conclusion of the series, they will tour Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The Green Men will play nine ODIs and as many T20Is in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as a two-match Test series against the Proteas.
In the upcoming white-ball matches, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah are all set to make their international cricket comeback after being recently dropped from the Test squad for the rest of the Tests against England. Also, some new players are set to get an opportunity in the upcoming rounds.
“The selectors also want to have some new young players in the squad, so there is every possibility that they may announce different squads for the three rounds to get to know more players and give the seniors a rest,” he said.
