Mo Salah’s recent exit comments had a hidden message for Liverpool chiefs

Mo Salah scored against Manchester United for the seventh game in a row on Sunday.

After assisting Luis Diaz twice and scoring once himself, the Egyptian striker enjoyed another impressive performance at Old Trafford.

However, despite the Reds’ impressive 3-0 win over their arch-rivals, it was Salah’s post-match comments that grabbed the headlines.

What…

talking with Sky Sports after the game, the 32-year-old said: “I came to the game and was like, ‘look, it could be the last time.’

“No one at the club talked to me about contracts yet, so I said: ‘OK, I’m playing the last season and we’ll see at the end of the season.’

Mo Salah in action for Liverpool.

“I feel like I’m free to play football, we’ll see what happens next year.”

Fans were understandably put off by Salah’s comments and apparent admission that this could be the last time he plays for Manchester United away from home, but Football Insider claims there is good reason behind the striker’s recent “media hype”.

The reason…

Although he will become a free agent at the end of the season and will therefore be able to discuss a pre-contract with clubs outside England as soon as the New Year, the Liverpool striker would prefer to stay at Anfield.

Consequently, his recent comments that this season will be his last are part of a “carefully constructed strategy to further build his profile and persuade Liverpool to offer him a new contract”.

However, while Salah’s preference is to stay at Liverpool and become arguably their best ever player, he won’t downgrade his contract, making him the team’s best player . £350,000 per weekeven though he is almost 33 years old.

However, after failing to make the move to the Pro League last year after Liverpool rejected a huge £150million bid from Al-Ittihad, the Egypt international sees his future in England.

During his seven years on Merseyside, Liverpool’s number 11 has scored 214 goals and registered 92 assists in 352 games in all competitions.
