The Boston Red Sox play in the AL East, one of the toughest divisions in Major League Baseball.
In a division that includes the New York Yankees, the Red Sox must remain active in their acquisitions every year to keep up.
While the Red Sox have nine World Series titles in their history, they haven’t won one since 2018, which was also the last time they won the AL East.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has revealed what the Red Sox need to do this offseason to get the organization back on a competitive level against the Yankees.
“Ultimately, they have to find more of a balance,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory .

Rosenthal mentions the need to add a right-handed bat who is as big a threat as Rafael Devers from the left side of the plate.
Rosenthal’s comparison is to have a Manny Ramirez-type player match up with the Giants like Ramirez did with David Ortiz.
Devers entered the league in 2017 and has spent all eight years of his career with the Red Sox.
Although he plays third base, there is some discussion within the Red Sox organization to move him to first base.
A possible move Rosenthal mentions is adding veteran right-handed hitter Nolan Arenado to play third base if they move Devers to first.
It’s safe to say Rosenthal believes the Red Sox need to add another big piece to their offense this offseason, whether it’s Arenado or someone else.
