Mizuno has new short game tools to complement the new Pro-S3 and JPX 925 Forged irons for 2025.
Pro T-1 AND Pro T-3 the wedges fit Mizuno’s standard narrative for the category: great feel, high level of spin control and, well, pretty cool to look down on if that’s important to you.
OK, but why two wedges in the same series? Mizuno has changed its playbook.
So before we talk about the specs of the Pro T-1 and Pro T-3, let’s catch you up with what’s been going on behind the scenes.
The winds of change
Having two distinct iron families Mizuno Pro AND JPX meant alternating between a T-Series wedge one year and a hollow-back S-Series the next.
That strategy has been removed.
Going forward, Mizuno will stick to a two-year product cycle for the wedge with everything pushed under the Mizuno Pro umbrella.
Good idea? No, great idea.
By reorganizing its assets into categories, Mizuno adds clarity to what was, at times, a confusing situation for consumers, assemblers and retailers with the most pressing issue being performance overlap.
The question was not necessarily which wedge was right for a consumer’s game, but which was the best. And why.
Adding to this confusion were technological crossovers in both the T and S Series products.
In terms of timing and talk, this is a smart move by Mizuno.
A grain flow forging PSA
each Mizuno iron or wedge review at MGS (or anywhere else for that matter) is bound to use the words “Grain Flow Shaping”.
Patented in 1998, the process defines the brand in both categories and serves Mizuno as a conduit for the feel/sound and performance of its irons and wedges.
In case you forgot what this production method entails:
A multi-step process executed in Hiroshima, Japan, Grain Flow Forging allows Mizuno to precisely create an iron head or wedge from a single shaft of 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel using the metal’s natural grain to increase the integrity, stability and durability of the head.
The one-piece build platform – which starts with a six-metre bar of steel heated to 1200C – produces continuous grain across the head and neck without welds.
This tight reinforced grain structure is what makes a Mizuno, well, a Mizuno.
Mizuno Pro T-1
Mizuno Pro T-1 are blade worthy in every sense.
Features of the compact head profile:
- HD Forged Grain Flow
- 1025 Pure selected mild carbon steel with copper coating
- Compact head profile
There are some significant changes from the previous T-24 lineup.
The shape remains the classic teardrop, but the new T-1 has a slightly less rounded toe.
Mizuno’s wedge design team also went for straighter lines for the leading edge to improve interaction with the ground and the upper edge to improve the look of the playing position.
Single profiles
Mizuno has increased its sole profiles for T-1 up to six: S, M, P, C, V, X.
This expands the range of options to suit individual short game style and course conditions.
A few notes: The Shuani M (Mid Bounce) has replaced the previous T24 D-Grind, and a new P (Plus Bounce) sole takes a page from that D profile, but with extra bounce for improved agility.
As for the X sole, Mizuno’s wedge team updated it to give the model 60 degrees of more aggressive relief for agility and lower effective bounce.
T-1 loft/bounce configurations come in 16.
Rotation control
As for rotation, Mizuno has gone all-in for durability in all conditions. This includes morning dew and other humid environments that play an active role in reducing the spin function.
QuadCut + Grooves and Hydroflow Micro Grooves make for a reliable tag team of rolling performance.
First appearing on the T24 wedges, the QuadCut+ grooves were the result of an adjustment of the groove shoulder cam and groove profile taper, which created an opportunity for Mizuno’s R&D team to bring the grooves closer to of the wedge.
The narrower design helps to maximize spin speed while Hydroflow technology channels moisture away from the grooves for better durability when wet.
Strongest attics in T-1 series focus on spin consistency while higher lofts attempt to maximize spin control on the green side.
It ends
wedge T-1 will be available in three finishes for right-handed players:
- Blue ion
- Black Ion
- Soft white satin
Sorry, no solution for southpaws: just soft white satin for lefties.
Stock shaft/grip
Mizuno has done something a little different with the T-1 axis availability.
True Temper’s Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 will be available in White Satin and Blue Ion.
To finish off the T-1 Black Ion, the company decided to use a KBS Hi Rev 115 in black PVD along with a black/gray Golf Pride Multi Compound Teams grip for a dark offering.
This control is available with all T-1 models.
Mizuno Pro T-3
Low handicappers can leave at this point, but hang in there if your short game lacks consistency.
I know, I know. Wedges with cavities, right? Kind of big, a little goofy to look at from below with those wide soles and lots of compensation.
Spoiler: The Mizuno Pro T-3 it’s not this.
Dare we say it, calling this a “gamer’s hollow wedge” isn’t a stretch.
Head profile, i T-3 it is only slightly larger than the compact T-1. It has the same face surface as a Vokey SM10 (according to Mizuno) with the same material and in-game performance characteristics:
- – Grain Flow Forged HD
- – 1025 Pure Select mild carbon steel with copper coating
- – Quad Cut + groove and Hydroflow Micro Grooves for excellent spin performance in all conditions.
The main difference is the shallow cavity of the T-3 cavity.
This design increases head length, improving hitting stability while adding more forgiveness for off-center hits.
Single profiles
Mizuno T-3 Point will come in three slightly wider sole profiles: S, M, C.
The new M nail is a significant improvement.
It replaces the profile of the previous S23 D model, giving the T-3 line a versatile chip that is ideal for a variety of shots including full swings, bunker play and touch shots around the green.
Wrapped
Right- and left-handed players will have to settle for a soft satin white finish on the T-3.
Stock shaft/grip
All of them T-3 wedge will come with a KBS Hi Rev 2.0 chrome finish and the same Golf Pride Multi Compound Teams Black/Gray grips.
Price and availability
Mizuno Pro T-1 AND T-3 wedges are $180 per club.
Pre-sales begin on February 6th with retail availability at authorized locations set for February 20th.
