Mitchell McClenaghan joins MI Cape Town coaching staff for Kruger van Wyk SA20 2025


MI Cape Town has made some changes in its coaching staff for the upcoming edition of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) SA20 season. On Saturday, MI Cape Town joined the coaching staff with former cricketers Mitchell McClenaghan and Kruger van Wyk as bowling coach and fielding coach respectively.

MI Cape Town finished the SA20 season at the bottom of the table for the second consecutive year, winning just three of their 10 matches. Notably, the Cape Town franchise has international players like Ben Stokes, Trent Boult and Rashid Khan, as well as local talent like Kagiso Rabada.

MI Cape Town welcomes Mitchell McClenaghan, Kruger van Wyk to the Coaching Staff

MI Cape Town have released a statement confirming the appointment of Mitchell McClenaghan as the team’s Bowling Coach and Kruger van Wyk as Fielding Coach for the 2025 SA20 season.

“MI Cape Town welcomes Mitchell McClenaghan as Bowling Coach for the upcoming 2025 SA20 season. He is set to join Kruger van Wyk as Fielding Coach,” read a statement from MI Cape Town.

Mitchell McClenaghan won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians

The franchise will be McClenaghan, who had a successful stint as Bowling coach at MI Emirates during their title-winning ILT20 2024 campaign. He will be a valuable addition for the upcoming season. Van Wyk brings his experience as the fielding coach for the South African men’s team.

“McClenaghan, a true blue MI #OneFamily legend, who won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians as a player in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 and is a part of Wankhede folklore, MI moves from Emirates. Part of title-winning ILT20 2024 campaign Coach .He will love it with a lot of exciting fast bowlers to work with at Newlands!

“Van Wyk is a former New Zealand Test cricketer and a veteran South African-born wicketkeeper with 80 T20s under his belt. He is also the Fielding Coach for the South African men’s team.”

Mitchell McClenaghan joined Mumbai Indians in 2015 and played a key role in the team for five seasons. He was retained for IPL 2020 but was not included in the XI as Trent Boult was also signed that season. McClenaghan took 71 wickets in 56 matches for Mumbai, with best figures of 4/21.

MI Cape Town have confirmed that Mitchell McClenaghan and Kruger van Wyk will work alongside Robin Peterson and Batting Coach Hashim Amla who continue as Head Coach. They also bid farewell to Lasith Malinga and James Pamment, thanking them for their contributions and wishing them success.
