Mitchell Marsh missing from Australia’s XI for SCG Test against India; change was announced

Australia announced the playing XI for the upcoming fifth and final Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting January 3. It is interesting that the Australian voters decided to stop the all-out fight. Mitchell Marsh From the XI that paved the way for the talented Tasmanian all-rounder.

Mitchell Marsh struggled for form at BGT 2024-25

Notably, Marsh, an Allan Border Medal winner, had a tough series against India, managing just 73 runs over seven overs at an average of 10.42. His highest contribution was 47 in the first Test at Perth, after which his form declined significantly.

Marsh’s struggles with the bat have been exacerbated by his limited impact with the ball, bowling just 13 times in the last three Tests without taking a wicket. This performance led to clamor for a change in the squad among fans and pundits alike.

Australian captain Pat Cummins At a press briefing on Thursday, he confirmed the development, expressing both disappointment and optimism about the change.

“Mitchy obviously doesn’t have the runs and wickets he would have liked this series. It’s a shame for Mitchy because we know how much he’s brought to the team, but we feel now is a good week for Beau to get a chance.” Cummins said.

The Tasmanian star will replace Marsh in the final XI

Beau WebsterHe was called in place of Marsh, who was in good form in domestic cricket. Webster, who has averaged 57.1 with the bat and 81 wickets at 31.7 in first-class cricket since March 2022, is set to become Australia’s 469th Test cricketer. His versatility as a player capable of both pace and spin helped his selection

The decision to include Webster comes at a crucial juncture as Australia look to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, held by India since the 2014-15 series. With the series currently 2-1 in Australia’s favour, the SCG Test could decide the series winner. A win or draw for Australia would see them reclaim the trophy for the first time in nearly a decade.
