Elise Mertens has created a court miracle to reach the finals at ‘S-Hertognenbosch.
Belgium rescued 11 game points to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova on Saturday, 2-6 7-6 (7) 6-4.

Mertens saved five points of match while serving in 4-5, then five others while serving in 5-6, she then saved her 11th match in Tiebreak before going to win the competition in a decision-making. It will play or qualify Elena-Gabriela Russian or Italian Elisabetta Cocciaetto.
The 11 matches of the match is thought to be the most sometimes stored in a WTA tour match, though it is not an official WTA record. China’s Wang Xinyu escaped the ten last year in a first round victory in Madrid over Victoriya Tomova. The 11 stored match points are equal to the ATP record – Adriano Panatta rescued 11 in Kim Warwick’s beating in Rome in 1976.
Great escape
