Mikel Arteta has admitted Arsenal dream of being the best team in the world as they try to steal the Premier League trophy from reigning champions Manchester City.
As it stands, the Gunners are one place ahead of their title rivals citybut two behind the league leader Liverpool. Arne Slot’s Reds have climbed to the top of the table and are seven points ahead of second-placed Chelsea.
But, believes Arteta arsenal they are capable of being the best, not just in English football, but in the world. His side secured wins over Manchester United, West Ham and Nottingham Forest after a poor run of form earlier in the season, bouncing back to reclaim their place among the title contenders.
“We want to be the kings of everything,” Arteta told reporters ahead of Sunday’s clash with Fulham. “On set pieces, the best in the world, in the high press, the best in the world, attacking open spaces, the best in the world. We want the best atmosphere in the stadium, and to be the best in everything.
“Before it was about not scoring enough, we were so defensive in our mentality, we weren’t physical enough and we couldn’t challenge the best teams and go 22, 17, 20 years without winning away from home in big games. We want to be the best in everything, we want to have the best academy, the best individual development for the players, recruit the best players and have the best coaches, that’s the goal and now we have to go and do something else.
“We’re very good at a lot of things. We take it as a compliment and as fuel to be better because we’re not perfect, not even in that department or defending from set pieces. We conceded three chances (against Manchester United), the three of which come from this kind of situation. There is a lot to improve and the margins are always there to explore and try to improve.”
Arsenal will travel to face Fulham Premier League on Sunday and could climb further towards leaders Liverpool after the Reds were forced to do so postpone their meeting with Everton.
