Jack Miller developed a fan-favourite reputation as a leader on the MotoGP grid during his time in the premier class, but Mick Doohan insists his countryman’s personality wasn’t the only thing that “kept him around” for so long.

During a look at Pit Talk Podcastfive-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing world champion Mick Doohan Miller was asked for his thoughts on why he was able to stay in the premier class for so long.
In the year The 2026 MotoGP campaign will mark Miller’s 12th consecutive season in the premier class, following his exit from the Moto3 category at the start of 2014.
In response to the question, Dohan said: “Look, I think, and this is my opinion, one, he’s a good kid, there are people around him who look like him, but that doesn’t translate into longevity.
“He clearly understands what is going on in making a bike DucatiUnfortunately, he is not working on it, but they definitely seem to be getting their way.
What can you expect from Jack Miller at Pramac in 2026?
“Yamaha have now developed a new format for them with a V4 engine. So, unfortunately, I believe he’s very good, and he can definitely run at the front, but the Yamaha he’s got this year is tougher.”
“He’s showing signs of brilliance, and he’s quick on the laps. He understands what’s on the bike. He can give good feedback from what I understand. So that’s what keeps him around.”
Jack Miller’s opinion is the main reason Yamaha has retained Pramac for 2026.
Doohan’s ruling echoes one of the main reasons why Miller kept his seat at Pramac over Miguel Olivera last year.
After Razgatlioglu’s switch to MotoGP machinery was confirmed midway through the season, the question of who would partner him in 2026 became a hot topic every weekend of the season.
In the end, Miller’s experience won out. Yamaha desperately needed someone with technical expertise in their stable to continue their V4 project, and the Australian is arguably the best rider on the grid in that regard.
In fact Miller is said to be ‘guaranteed’ to keep his seat at Pramac. A new set of regulations for MotoGP next year will be an important year in terms of development for the Japanese constructor.
