“Slick” Michael Anderson will face an opponent to be named, while Emmanuel “Salserito” Rodriguez and Khalid Twaiti will face off in a bantamweight clash on October 12 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ
Anderson (24-3-1, 18 KOs) of Newark will fight for the fourth time in his last five fights at Prudential Center, after knocking out Eudy Bernardo in 5 rounds at the home of the New Jersey Devils last December. The 43-year-old welterweight has won his last seven fights dating back five years.
In the co-main event, Rodriguez (15-2, 8 KOs) and Twaiti (13-0, 5 KOs) will meet in a ten-round fight with world ranking possibilities on the line. Rodriguez, 31, of Newark, was previously ranked before a pair of losses derailed him. Since then, Rodriguez, who was raised in Puerto Rico, has won two in a row. Twaiti, 28, of Brooklyn, NY trains out of Gleason’s Gym and takes his first major step into competition.
“That’s what boxing is all about: fighters stepping up to take on challenges. It is a true blessing to bring an event to Prudential Center. I am more than happy for this opportunity. This event will be one to remember,” said promoter Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna of Rising Star Promotions.
“Prudential Center is very excited to partner with Rising Star Promotions to welcome some of the best boxing talent in New Jersey and the tri-state area for the biggest edition of Brick City Fight Night Series to date,” said Dylan Wanagiel, VP of Sports Properties and special events for Prudential Center. “We look forward to Saturday, October 12, which will be a night full of exciting boxing action as we continue to celebrate the ‘Sweet Science’ in Brick City.”
Other bouts already matched include Terell Bostic (12-2, 2 KOs) of Wyandanch, NY vs. Jersey City’s Michael Lee (10-3, 7 KOs) in an eight-round junior welterweight bout.
The card will also feature a number of the region’s rising stars, including heavyweight prospects Christian Prenga (15-1, 15 KOs), a hard-hitting Albanian heavyweight now based in Edgewater, NJ, plus 2019 National Golden Gloves champion Anthony Johns (8-1, 6 KOs) of Newark and junior middleweight Jean Pierre Valencia (1 -0, 1 KO) of Irvington, NJ in separate fights.
