Mboko beats Bucsa, claims second career title in Hong Kong – Tennis Now

After a brief spurt this fall, Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko is climbing the rankings again. The 19-year-old won her second title of the season on Sunday in Hong Kong, beating Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 7-5 6-7(9) 6-2.

The Canadian, who won the Bank National Open title this summer, was ranked outside the Top 300 at the end of last year. Now, she is up to number 18 in the WTA live rankings.

Mboko had to work overtime to claim his second career title on Sunday.

She led by one set and 3-0, but was forced to go the distance when Bucsa came back to win the middle set.

She eventually took control of the final set and won the longest WTA final of 2025 in two hours and 49 minutes.

“It’s been an incredible week,” Mboko told the court. “Wow, what a match, I’m so tired right now. Cristina really pushed me to my limits.”

The 68th-ranked Bucsa, playing in her first WTA final, saved a championship point in the second-set tiebreak. She converted her fourth point to take the match to a decider.

Mboko saved 10 of 13 break points overall, including all three she faced in the final set.
