The location for the WBC-ordered re-broadcast between interim super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez has yet to be determined.
The strong case for Montreal
From a business point of view, it would make sense that the event was staged in Montreal, Mbilli’s adopted hometown, rather than in Las Vegas, where they fought a 12-round split draw on September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium.
Mbilli is a popular fighter in Montreal and draws large crowds to his events. They could not perform their fight in Martinez’s homeland Guatemala because it would not work. The journey, which brings in the DAZN broadcasters, and ticket sales would not be the same as the fight in Montreal.
Without having a big star to sell tickets, an Mbilli against Martinez 2 Rematch will not sell in Las Vegas. The two fought at the Canelo Alvarez against Terence Crawford event, so they don’t have to worry about bringing fans to sell the stadium.
A great break for Crawford
The WBC ordered the Mbilli-Martinez II four days after their fight on September 17. It works in Crawford’s favor, because if he had to defend against Mbilli’s WBC-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-Tus-cent time rather than taking the risky battle he could lose. Mbilli did not want to allow him to treat the fight as a sparring session like Canelo did.
Controversy over the move of tactics
With the re -broadcast found in Montreal, Mbilli can benefit from the referee who controls the illegal push Martinez does. It was a big part of Lester’s game for the 13 -September match. He pushed Mbilli away and hit him immediately afterwards.
Fighters are supposed to fight out of the situation or move away. What Martinez did was push Mbilli hard, two to three feet, and then beat him. It is illegal, and the referee did not do his job. Without that tactic, there is an excellent chance that Mbilli would have won the battle because Martinez was not as effective on the inside as on the outside or medium.
