The super -mid -weight collision between WBC -Tussent time champion Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez has an excellent chance of stealing the show from the main event between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford on Saturday night, September 13.
No chess match here
Many fans believe that Mbilli should be the fellow function on the map against Martinez. Instead, the third invoice under the Callum Walsh against Fernando Vargas jr. Promoter Dana White one of the supporters of the Walsh of Ireland. I believe that fights should be under the Mbilli-Martinez clash, because there is not much buzz of fans in the media about the 154-pound clash.
Mbilli (29-0, 24 costs) and Martinez (19-0, 16 COs) are both all-action power fighters who constantly push forward and throw bombs into their fights. It will not be a boxing match or one that includes a back-and-forth chess match like the main event will be. These two are going to be on the attack during their 12-round underscore fight.
The 2016 Olympic Mbilli looked impressive in recent fights and defeated Maciej Sulecki and Sergiy Derevyanchenken, a veteran. The Cameroon-born Mbilli climbed into Montreal, Canada, to become the WBC Tus-Time Champion at 168. Now he hopes that a win over Martinez will put him against the winner of the Canelo-Crawford match.
“I just don’t think it’s a good stylistic match for Mbilli. Martinez is definitely underestimated and can come well from the back foot, and he can also be the aggressor. He is also a good counterpart. If Martinez can weather the early storm, Mbilli will have nothing left to keep him off, ‘said journalist Ryan O’hara to fight.
Mbilli sometimes struggled in his fighting against Derevyanchenkoko and Rohan Murdock of the power shots he was hit with. However, he did not use endurance that would indicate that he would catch out against Martinez after a quick start.
Martinez’s acid test
What Martinez went against him to win this battle is his lack of experience against quality opposition. Since becoming professional in 2019, Martinez has not fought no striking opposition. He is 29, and it is there in age for a fighter who has never fought fighters with top level. It is unclear why his promoters waited so long to fit him against his first top-15 fighter. It is a sink-or-swimming situation for Lester.
Martinez’s last six opponents
- Jushon James
- Carlos Gongora
- Ruben corner
- Lucas de Abreu
- Isaiah Sheen
- Fabian Rios Frausto
The only one of the six I heard is Gongora from his defeats against Mbilli and Lerrone Richards.
