Mayweather Promotions Prospect Jursly Vargas will face Bryan Carrillo

At first glance, the training footage on social media looked like a video of Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but it is Jursly “The Gorilla” Vargas, a 20-year-old Dominican boxer who Bryan Carrillo (3-1, 2 KOs) on Saturday night, August 24 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.

Undefeated Mayweather Promotions prospect Jursly Vargas (2-0, 2 KOs) is an aggressive, hard-hitting fighter in the first phase of his professional boxing career. Saturday night, on the Mayweather vs. Gotti III headliners undercard, Vargas plans to showcase his skills.

Jursly Vargas, a native of Curaçao, who also spent part of his education in Rotterdam, Netherlands, got his start in combat sports as a kickboxer. At the age of 16, he switched to boxing and participated in amateur fights in Amsterdam, Germany and England.

In November 2022, Jursly Vargas made his pro debut in the Netherlands against Yanko Naydenov. In the opening round, Vargas hit Naydenov with a hard right hand, causing Naydenov to do a 180-degree turn.

Vargas charged in and pummeled his opponent with vicious rights and lefts. The referee looked like he wanted to step in to stop the fight, but he separated the fighters and allowed the match to continue.

Once the action resumed, Jursly Vargas knocked out Yanko Naydenov as he landed a flurry of power shots. The devastating knockout became an instant classic as footage of the KO went viral.

Two weeks after his debut fight, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather contacted Jursly Vargas. Two weeks later, Vargas signed with Mayweather Promotions and moved to Las Vegas.

By moving to Vegas, Jursly Vargas was able to experience the next level of sparring. After sharpening his tools, Vargas was ready to step back inside the squared circle. In March 2024, Vargas moved to 2-0 with a dominant first-round knockout win over Darrick Yates.

Now Jursly Vargas is ready to take advantage of his opportunity to be on the Mayweather vs Gotti III lead-in undercard by hopefully delivering another highlight reel style knockout. Vargas is an ambitious boxer who has set a goal of fighting for a world title by the age of 21.

Before he can focus on his ultimate career goal, Jursly Vargas, a boxer with two pro fights worth two first-round knockouts, has business to do Saturday night in Mexico City.
