Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik spoke about fast bowler Mayank Yadav’s inclusion in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. Dinesh Karthik says Mayank Yadav deserves to get his first India call-up despite his limited experience in domestic cricket and the IPL.
On Saturday, September 28, the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-man squad for the home T20I series against Bangladesh. Mayank Yadav got his first call-up from the national cricket team after impressing everyone with his pace in the IPL 2024 season.
Mayank made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. The right-arm fast bowler grabbed the limelight with 155 km/h in the series before he got injured. He also hit the fastest over of the IPL 2024 season (156.7 kmph) with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
So excited for Mayank Yadav – Dinesh Karthik
During a chat on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik was asked about Mayank Yadav’s inclusion in India’s T20I squad. Karthik pointed out that fast bowlers have a shorter career span compared to batsmen. He said that breeders should maximize their potential by giving them a chance.
“I feel you always have to make an exception for fast bowlers. They are a rare breed and when you see talent, when you see a certain skill package, they’re likely to have a shelf life it shouldn’t be as much as a batter,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.
“So make the best use of them, give them the best opportunities. They It’s always a very rare gem to get, and if you find one, keep it. And Mayank Yadav definitely belongs to this category. I am very excited for him,” he added.
Love the Look of this New Team – Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik also shared his thoughts on India’s T20I squad for the match against Bangladesh. He praised Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir for picking a new generation team. The cricketer-turned-commentator said the selectors were deliberately excluding players from the current Test squad.
“I love the look of this new squad. Kudos to Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir for creating what looks like a new generation squad. They have consciously not taken anyone from the current Test team, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, because they say give it a break , we invite you to New Zealand and then Australia for five Test matches.”
“The message is loud and clear. So this team looks like the team that will play in this series and the four T20s in South Africa to begin with. I love the youthful look of this team. It’s there. I can’t wait for them to get out on the park and show the world the skills they have. “
Team India is currently facing Bangladesh in the second and final test match at Green Park in Kanpur. The T20I series will begin on October 6 at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. Delhi and Hyderabad will host the remaining matches on October 9 and 12.
