Maxwel Cornet linked with January return to West Ham

West Ham United player Maxwel Cornet is currently on loan at Southampton.

However, the 28-year-old has struggled for regular game time with the Saints and has played just 187 minutes of football for them this season.

According to a report from the athleticCornet could now return to his parent club in January. West Ham could recall him at the London Stadium after his failed loan spell.

It will be interesting to see if the Hammers are ready to give them opportunities in the second half of the season. ideally, they should look to move it permanently.

The 28-year-old has not been at his best for a few months and a fresh start would be ideal for him, leaving the Premier League to embark on a new challenge could help the 28-year-old regain his form and trust he was linked with an exit at the start of the season too

While there is no doubt that West Ham need more quality and depth in the side, it is unlikely that the 28-year-old will be able to make a definitive impact for them.

West Ham have been pretty mediocre this season and currently sit mid-table. They were expected to boost the European standings at the start of the season and it will be interesting to see if coach Julen Lopetegui can turn things around.

With a couple of smart additions in January, there’s no reason they can’t bounce back strongly. Getting rid of fringe players like Cornet could help West Ham bolster their ranks.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old is still very much at the peak of his powers and could prove a useful acquisition for mid-table sides if he can regain his sharpness.
