Maxfli’s Tour model fourth ball is a lower-spinning version of the Tour X, designed to extract spin from the long game without softening
I’m honestly not sure if it says more than where Maxfli it’s like a performance brand or where Ben Griffin is as a PGA Tour player. Either way, the result is the same. The company built a golf ball pretty much around its marquee player and now that ball, Maxfli Tour X LSis available to the rest of us. This is the regular version, anyway. The reality, as it tends to be with golf balls, is a little more nuanced.
Griffin of all
Let’s deal with Griffin first because Maxfli you really want to think about it.
Since signing with the brand in 2024, Griffin has climbed from 92nd in the world to a career-best top 10. The breakthrough was in 2025: three PGA Tour victories (the Zurich Classic team event together with Andrew Novak, the Charles Schwab Challenge for his first solo title and the World Wide Play Championship in the New Year of Technology). nod. For context, these were Maxfli’s first Tour wins since 2003. The partnership paid off for both sides.
This year has been tougher. Two thirds (Colonial and Doral) and a T14 at the PGA Championship say the talent is still very much there. A collection of lost clippings, among them Players and Masters, says that a golf ball is not a magic bullet. Both things are true at the same time. Ball didn’t make Griffin a top-10 player, and that’s not why he missed the cuts. It’s equipment. Good equipment, but still only one piece of a much bigger puzzle.
What is really different
on paper, Tour X LS is a close cousin of the standard The X tournament: four-layer double jacket construction with compression around 100. You’ll find the same 336 dimple pattern that Maxfli runs on both The X tournament AND Tour S. In market terms, think you live in the same neighborhood as the Left Dashes and Triple Diamonds of the world, tournament balls built with distance in mind.
The change that matters is exactly in the name. LS IS lower rotation and where you need to take notice is the long game: driver, fairway woods, hybrids, longer irons. The stuff where the extra spin quietly costs you meters and turns a small loss into a bigger one.
To achieve the lower roll profile, Maxfli increased the thickness of the inner shell and mated it to a smaller core with lower compression. To be clear, a softer core does not mean a softer ball (at least not in this case). of Tour X LS is as strong as The X tournament. It just gets there differently, trading off some essential durability for a stronger inner mantle.
The other special thing is the flight. Maxwell says LS emits a touch higher than The X tournament which is a bit counterintuitive given that when two balls share a dimple pattern, the one with higher spin usually flies higher. With that said, I wouldn’t agree that the gap was dramatic.
What about spinning on the green side?
The Maxfli pins on the green rim rotate flush with the The X tournament and this trace. Spin on short shots is primarily driven by the cover and the layer immediately below it, both of which are carried by the Tour X. So this is the part of the bag where the two balls should feel like twins. Which is to say, pretty good.
“Low spin” is relative
Now for some fine print, I guess. All this low talk is relative. We can reasonably assume that Tour X LS spins less than the Tour X on most shots. What we don’t know, and what matters to golf ball buyers, is how much.
of LS the category is broad. Some of these balls (Left Dash being the obvious example) spin dramatically less than their mainstream siblings and qualify as truly low spin against the rest of the market. Others are truly mid-spinning offerings that happen to spin a touch less than the rest of a given group, with the low-spin tag making a heavier lift. These are very different balls for very different players and the name on the side stamp will not tell you which one you are holding.

Value still plays
with Tour X LS, Maxfli Tour lineup now it’s four deep: TOURNAMENTS, Tour S, The X tournamentand the new one X LS. And here I will continue to beat the same drum. When you weigh what actually makes a good ball lineup (multiple models that really serve different types of players, quality, durability, and real-world performance on the course), the Maxfli remains the best value in the premium/tournament space. Three tournament wins in a $39.99 ball doesn’t exactly weaken the case.
