It wasn’t that long ago Max Homa was one of the most prolific professional players and perhaps the best on social media. His favorite activity? Nice and funny swing video removal.
But it was fan video of Homa’s move that ultimately inspired the six-time tournament winner to end a long absence from the X.
Earlier this season, Homa disappeared from X, his favorite platform, to focus on his game. But at the BMW Championship last week he made his grand comeback. What exactly caused Homa to jump back into the volatile fray on the site formerly known as Twitter? Criticism from a fan about slow play
On Thursday afternoon during the opening round of the tournament, an X user posted a video of Homa, which he called “the most frivolous on tour,” claiming that Homa had taken more than 15 minutes to hit a shot.
By Thursday evening, we learned that while Homa no longer posts on X, it appears he still reads the site. At 5:42 PM ET, Homa’s account came back to life in the form of a slow-play response to the call.
With his characteristic humor, Homa explained that the long wait to bat was not his fault, but instead he had been waiting for a rules official to come to make a decision, writing: “I was waiting for a rules official to 15 minutes. have a great day Matt keep up the great videos!”
Just minutes later, Homa posted an explanation for his long absence from X, writing, “I quit Twitter a while ago because I thought it might help my game. Boy was I wrong 😂 hoping tomorrow would be the day it clicks. At least I’ll finally grow a donkey after hiking Castle Pines this week.”
Homa has a point about his game. After breaking out in the 2022-23 season with two wins to finish 9th in the FedEx Cup standings, his game took a downward turn in 2024.
This season he only managed three top-10s. A T33 finish at BMW dropped Homa to 46th in the FedEx standings, meaning he won’t be making it into this week’s race. Championship tournament.
